The Coffee Mine Project ("Coffee") is a proposed hard-rock gold mine. Coffee will be a premier, high-grade, open pit heap leach gold mine project, built to world class standards, located in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Temporary Geology Technician - Coffee Project

The Geology Technician will be responsible for collecting geotechnical data from all aspects of the drilling program. This role requires the candidate to maintain high levels of safety and demonstrate environmental awareness by following all government and corporate regulations and policies. This position is seasonal and is expected to run from May through to September but could be extended dependent on operational needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Moving and organizing diamond drill core 
  • Completing rock quality and specific gravity measurements 
  • Working with oriented drill core
  • Core cutting/splitting and sampling, paying special attention to quality
  • Geological sampling and data entry
  • Analyzing and managing samples from RC drills 
  • Managing sample submission process, including quality control & shipment tracking
  • Data entry

Training, Experience & Requirements

  • Preferred candidate will have a diploma in Geological Technology or similar
  • 1-5 years of relevant experience in exploration preferred
  • Prior work experience at a remote mining/exploration operation highly regarded
  • Computer skills with Microsoft Office required
  • Demonstrated excellent work ethic, communication & organizational skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in all conditions 
  • Able to work in camp setting on a rotational basis 
  • Able to work day shift or night shifts
  • Consent to pre-employment screening
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent 
  • Physically able to work in steep rough terrain, communicate safely and efficiently via radio or phone, lift and carry up to 45 pounds of equipment and/or samples, able to load and unload core boxes onto logging tables

Working Conditions

This position is a field-based in the Yukon Territory, Canada. During the field season this will be a fly-in/fly-out position based at the Coffee Project site; the rotational schedule will be two weeks in/two weeks out. Outside of the field season (depending on the project’s needs) work will be based in Newmont’s office in Whitehorse.
