Your Role

Regional Shutdown Planning Superintendent

Technical Services provides global support to Newmont and its operating businesses across a range of specialized technical functions. Within Technical Services, the Asset Management (AM) function will be responsible for creating and implementing effective global asset strategies, delivering efficient asset planning and strategic insights to drive exceptional global asset performance across Newmont’s portfolio. It aims to ensure that Newmont’s asset management processes and capabilities are a source of sustainable and considerable competitive advantage for Newmont. This is achieved by focusing on business process standardization, proactive collaboration, competency and capability development, maintenance and reliability practices, relevant global productivity metrics and targeted value-adding asset lifecycle cost improvements. The AM function is focused on delivering value aligned with our philosophy of continuous improvement and rapid replication.

The asset planning function is responsible for the delivery of effective maintenance plans and schedules designed to maximize the efficiency of site maintenance teams and drive improved equipment performance. The shutdown planning function operates as part of asset planning and is responsible for the delivery of effective shutdown plans and schedules designed to maximize the efficiency of site maintenance and contractor teams and drive improved equipment performance.

The Regional Shutdown Planning Superintendent will be responsible for providing strategic direction to the regional shutdown planning team, ensuring alignment to the global process and communicating with site teams to support the delivery of shutdown plans & schedules, availability and cost targets.

This is a leadership role that draws on expertise as a people manager, strategic thinker, project manager, communicator, technical subject matter expert, and problem solver. Key outcomes include:

  • Overseeing the preparation and delivery of major shutdown plans and schedules in conjunction with site timeline and budgets to drive equipment reliability and availability
  • Establish and maintain clear communication with site leadership and execution teams to support the execution of shutdown plans
  • Creating and communicating AM best practices and technical vision across Newmont portfolio
  • Identifying site-based and replicable improvements to reduce shutdown related downtime and costs

Essential Duties

Safety and Health

  • Demonstrate proactive leadership in achieving a global Newmont culture of safety and health
  • Actively promote Newmont’s safety standards and improvement initiatives

Shutdown Planning

  • Providing strategic direction to regional shutdown planning teams working with sites to determine the scope, scale, and critical path for shutdowns to deliver effective shutdown plans
  • Maintains the 36-month rolling shutdown calander to visualize shutdown drivers and plant constraints
  • Lead engagement with site team to support execution of shutdown plans
  • Leverage global shutdown management strategies to ensure best practice is consistently applied across shutdown plans
  • Lead post-shutdown review with site stakeholders to identify key lessons for integration in future shutdown plans
  • Cross-Functional Support

  • Provide ongoing input to strategic planners on compliance with budget and any expected deviances from long-term budgets
  • Drive collaboration with Supply Chain, Mining, Processing and Asset Management OSN’s to provide input and feedback from shutdown planning
  • Collaborate with reliability engineering to update and improve shutdown planning strategies
  • Manage application of innovative and technological solutions to improve shutdown management
  • Talent Management

  • Implement regional talent management strategy and pipeline
  • Facilitate a high performing virtual work environment across multiple globally dispersed locations

Training & Experience

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, trade certification or industry experience
  • Understanding of manual and computerized maintenance planning systems
  • Strong understanding of shutdown planning principles and best practices
  • Strong understanding of long-term & strategy planning

 

Experience:

  • Significant demonstrated experience in heavy industry, shutdown experience required
  • Demonstrated experience with contractor management
  • Demonstrated experience managing a high performing team and implementing value driven improvements
  • Experience with change, communication, and knowledge management methodologies
  • Experience in implementing shutdown management principles and best practices across multiple site

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to drive performance improvement initiatives in a complex and global organization
  • Demonstrated leadership through coaching, mentoring, and developing individuals and advising teams to exceed expected performance levels
  • Demonstrated the ability to influence change with all levels of the business 
  • An ability to lead global teams and managing people/tasks both in-person and virtually
  • The ability to work flexibly to meet the frequent out of normal office hours requirements of leading a global team and project

Working Conditions

  • Position may be office based or hybrid (office & remote work)
  • Position may be required to travel domestically and internationally
