Purpose

  • The Regional Geotechnical Engineer will provide high-level consulting geotechnical operations and modelling.  Consulting extends to Newmont projects, operations and exploration.
  • Assists in mentoring and development of North American geotechnical engineers.
  • Implements mine geology tools and techniques (mapping, data quality assessment)
  • Provides training on Newmont’s standards and guidelines for geotechnical engineering.
  • Travel to Newmont sites is expected.

Essential Duties

  • Drive excellence in geotechnical risk assessments and hazard identifications.
  • Input into stope and development designs.
  • Establish and maintain effective monitoring through the installation and analysis of seismic data and other type of instrumentations.
  • Oversee design and implement short-to-long term geotechnical programs to meet Life of Mine needs and mitigate risks to operations.
  • Provide appropriate guidance and expertise into geotechnical inputs into the short and long-term mine plans, as well as ongoing mining production.
  • Establish proactive approaches to geotechnical risk management.
  • Appropriate communication of identified geotechnical risks.
  • Implement the ground control management strategy.
  • Review and approved local ground support standard.
  • Ensure the stability of the ground (i.e. development, stopes, infrastructure).
  • Contribute to improvements in controlled blasting outcomes.
  • Work towards attaining active cost containments in the short-term and the medium term.
  • Manage Geotechnical respective expenditures within the approved budget and sign-off limits to maintain effective cost controls and savings.

Training & Experience

  • B.Sc. or B.A. degree in Geology, Geologic Engineering or Mining Engineering or a closely related field, with 5 years or more of industry experience in mining.  
  • Must be a recognized Competent/Qualified person by all national and international reporting standards.
  • Experienced with mining and geotechnical software.
  • Experience in operations and operational issues related to geotechnical engineering, including numerical modelling and seismic analysis.
  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills for presentations to site management, executive management, market analysts and outside parties.
  • Ability to work with teams, peers and managers.
     

Working Conditions

  • Position is required to travel extensively to, and assist, domestic and international sites.
  • Working in a cross-functional environment and must be able to engage with specialists across disciplines.
