HS Advisor, Canada Legacy Sites

Please note the below duties are applicable to the Canada Legacy Sites only.

  • You will be responsible for leading an effective Health, Safety, and Security (HSS) strategy that addresses fatal and catastrophic risks and progresses Newmont Legacy Sites’ journey to zero harm.
  • Lead and support all site entities and facilities in the execution of Legacy Sites’ Global HSS Strategy.
  • Design and implement HSS strategy, policy, and standards to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and Newmont standards.
Essential Duties
  • Act as a core member of the sites HSS functional leadership team and actively contribute to the development of the key strategy and objectives.
  • Actively participate in Global Legacy Sites activities including workshops, meetings, auditing, and governance programs.
  • Provide HSS support to other Legacy Sites functions such as incident investigation, auditing, and risk analysis.
  • Build HSS programs and initiatives to operate safely throughout the sites portfolio and continually improve HSS performance.
  • Partner with legacy sites resources to develop and implement sites HSS strategy, programs, and objectives.
  • Compile and report HSS performance data.
  • Lead and facilitate the implementation of event investigations, including appropriate employee training at operations.
  • Develop and maintain corrective action, supervisor compliance, and SOP registers.
  • Conduct audit and verification activities.
  • Optimally engage with site contractors and consultants to communicate Newmont HSS expectations and policies, and understand project-specific challenges and risk management requirements.
  • Provide leadership, support, and training to ensure that contractor management at sites aligns with Newmont's programs and practices.
  • Assist leadership team with preparation, execution, and regular training and testing of the Rapid Response and emergency management systems.
  • Participate in initial emergency preparedness and plan preparation at sites.
  • Deliver HSS coaching and mentoring to the sites leadership team and field personnel.

Training & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in occupational safety and health or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of industry-recognized health and safety systems.
  • Knowledge of H&S regulatory framework and processes in areas where Legacy Sites operates.
  • Extensive knowledge of contruction, demolition, and site remediation project management and safety processes.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant H&S experience.
  • Mining, construction or utilities experience is preferred.
  • Validated experience in successful implementation of HSS systems, programs, and initiatives across a broad and diverse working environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong PC skills using MS office software.
  • Ability to use initiative and demonstrable problem solving techniques.
  • Able to acquire visas in countries where Newmont is or may be working.
  • Proven track record of leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Applied skills in risk management applications and Incident investigation methodologies, causal assessment and analysis.
  • Ability to interact with diverse cultures.
  • A proven understanding of multiple languages is considered an advantage.
Working Conditions
  • The position will sit in Canada, exact location, TBD.
  • Position requires an extensive degree of site travel based on business demands.
