This position reports to Regional Technology Director.

Purpose

  • To manage and deliver technology services and projects to support the site operations by partnering with mining and processing organizations, and assisting in the implementation of regional strategies to ensure all technology activities are providing the best possible user experience, shortest possible incident resolution time, and maximum service uptime through most efficient operation of the site network.

Essential Duties

Site Technology Team & Leadership

  • Establish and maintain a site technology team who have the requisite knowledge and skills to deliver services to the agreed standards (quality and timeliness).  This will include continually monitoring team performance and capability to ensure that it evolves in line with the business needs, deficits are addressed and new or additional talent is added proactively.
  • Provides technology leadership in support the mining and processing operations program portfolio in a manner that produces results, is transparent in nature and efficiently uses capital funds in alignment with management strategy.
  • Participate in the development of the technology business plans for the region in alignment with regional business, operations and technology strategies.
  • Actively engage site leadership and department heads to ascertain needs, set expectations, manage priorities, and ensure technology service delivery satisfaction.
  • Ensures the sites adhere to the Technology Enterprise Architecture standards and support the management of the Newmont Technology Road Map, which includes regular updates to the key stakeholders at site/s.

Site Technology Performance

  • Provide leadership in the site day-to-day operations of technology, while ensuring that regional, site and global projects are planned and synchronized locally.
  • Will be accountable for all aspects of developing and implementing technology initiatives within the sites.
  • Manages the site technology operating model and ensures consistency and alignment across the business for the services and support provided in each operating location.  
  • Prepare annual capital and operating budgets and meet budget targets in conjunction with the sites, regional and Global process/team.
  • Manages multiple site projects, leads project teams, responsible for the overall project portfolio budget at the site level.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all Newmont global and local policies, processes and procedures
  • Contributes to establishing global policies, controls and procedures, and ensures compliance and augmenting with regionally required policies and controls as needed to meet business needs. 

Vendor and Consultant Management

  • Manage the vendor and consultant relationships for the site, ensuring that quality, cost and timing requirements are met.

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or related field
  • Network and CISCO certifications are required, MCSE certification a plus
  • MBA studies and Postgraduate are preferred
  • 8+ years’ experience in networking and server infrastructure services or technical support role
  • 5+ years experience performing a mine site-based technology networking support role
  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • Broad knowledge of all technology considerations (performance, scalability, maintainability, deployment, operations, technology infrastructure)
  • Possess strong technology knowledge and understanding with deep skills in technology operations, customer relationship management and outsourcing vendor relationship management
  • Proven ability to discuss voice and data decision-making network concepts and strategies in simple, clear terms to help drive and influence the decision-making of business and application owners
  • A strong mix of business, functional, and technical skills
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Self-driven employee, with a proactive and strategic vision of Technology
  • Ability to effectively plan and control projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with vendors, subordinates, colleagues, clients and customers at all levels

Working Conditions

  • Position based near operating sites in Ontario (Timmins or Thunder Bay)
  • A minimum physical presence at the site is required to be no less than one week per month
  • May require travel to remote mining locations within the region
  • Works on a schedule defined by site with flexible hours to accommodate global meeting times
