Purpose

  • Co-ordinate overall project development and execution efforts ensuring that the work is performed in the safest and most cost-effective manner by managing all resources required to execute sustaining capital projects for the operating mines inclusive of Hoyle Pond, Borden and Surface Operations
  • Periodic support will be required to the ongoing Pamour mine ramp up 

Essential Duties

Managing Subordinates

  • This position is responsible for managing all the direct report positions including a review of all completed work, providing direction, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and assessing performance.
  • Participate in the selection of direct reporting positions including project development supervisors and project managers and project engineers


Promote Safety

  • Zero Harm – manage both Porcupine and all  project contractors to ensure this is achieved, includes in the field leadership, sufficient planning and all safety aspects of the management plan
  • Promote the use and application Critical Controls to manage risk both in field and in designs.
  • Promote and adhere to Newmont and Porcupine’s environmental and sustainability polices.
  • Establish relationships with external agencies (i.e. MOL, MOE, etc.)
  • Ensure that safety management plans are developed and reviewed
  • Lead by example, provide guidance and motivate people to work safely

Strategic Planning & Communication

  • Ensure that all work is well planned and developed for efficient execution as per Newmont Stage 3 and 4 study execution definition
  • Liaise with all support groups and with the project team in setting the direction and establishing the mid to long term project plan 
  • Liaise with all stakeholders to ensure proper alignment between Porcupine and contractors
  • Initiate development of new and or revision of existing policy and procedures.
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly reports on project status.
  • Work closely with project engineers, mine scheduler and mine operations team to track and execute project schedule and to develop contingency actions 

Production 

  • Ensure all work is executed safely and within budget
  • Develop healthy working relationships  with all contractors.
  • Develop scopes of work and associated Request for Proposal documents
  • Evaluate proposals from an objective stand point to ensure Newmont value position is maintained
  • Collaborate with supply chain to establish contractual language to support project execution
  • Manage and track contractor performance against contractual obligation
  • Authorize all change orders, progress statements, invoices, contract variations etc with respect to the execution of the work completed by the contractors 

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or a combination of education (graduate of college Mining Engineering Program) and work experiences.
  • 5 years minimum experience in managing mining operations
  • Exposure to Project Development and Execution
  • Demonstrated experience in managing mining operations and directing project development activities.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing project scope, schedule and budget
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans and offer sound technical expertise with significant shaft engineering, design and construction experience. 
  • Proven experience in project engineering or project management 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead others.

Working Conditions

This is a site based position located in Timmins, ON
The schedule is 4 days on 3 days off.
