Mine Technical Services Superintendent - Hollinger

The Technical Services Superintendent leads a multi-disciplinary team of mine technical and geological staff.

The following positions report to the Technical Services Superintendent:

  • Mine Engineering Supervisor /Senior Mine Engineer – Short-Term Planning
  • Mine Engineering Supervisor /Senior Mine Engineer – Mid-Term Planning
  • Senior Pit Geologist

Purpose

 

Accountable for the delivery of realistic and reliable mining plans by managing all production geology and mine engineering activities at the mine site, for safe work methods and procedures for all members of the department, for the pursuit of continuous improvement opportunities of mine operations and for the management of site specific technical services workforce and budget.

Essential Duties

 

  • Design, implementation and review of applicable systems, standards and procedures to manage all Mine Engineering and Production Geology functions
  • Reporting of performance statistics, statutory requirements and Full Potential (continuous improvement) initiatives

 

Short-Term Planning

  • Scheduling and tracking of all relevant mining activities for 0-3 months
  • Planning and design of all relevant mining activities
  • Field implementation, survey and reconciliation
  • Operations progress and Spatial Compliance tracking

 

Mid-Term Planning

  • Planning and design of mining phases and associated activities
  • Production forecasting of all conceptual mining activities for 3-24 months
  • Contributing to annual mine budget process
  • Planning, construction and monitoring of mine infrastructure (roadways, stockpiles, waste dumps, water management)
  • Integration and transition of mining operations from Hollinger pit to Pamour pit

 

Long-Term Planning

  • Consolidation of Porcupine Mine Production physicals (3 mining sources, 1 mill) for Business Planning purposes
  • Collaboration with Corporate Long-term Planning group related to preparation of annual Mine Reserves for mine operations and Life-Of-Mine planning of mine operations
  • Support annual strategic business planning process and capital works planning

 

Production Geology

  • Planning, design and coordination of grade control activities to support mine planning
  • Ore Control blockmodel estimation
  • Pit mapping, sampling and Grade control of mine production areas
  • Monthly and annual Ore production reconciliation
  • Sample assays and database management

Training & Experience

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology or equivalent discipline related experience for the position.
  • 10-15 years experience in Mine Engineering, Mine Operations and/or Mine Geology, preferably in open pit mining environment
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory role with exposure to senior supervisory roles and duties.
  • Able to read engineering plans with a good understanding of slope stability, mine planning and geology
  • Good knowledge of open pit mining and drilling & blasting techniques. 
  • Good working knowledge of open pit mining procedures and maintenance requirements.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good financial knowledge and skills.
  • High learning agility.

Working Conditions

 

  • This position is located at Hollinger Pit, part of Newmont's Porcupine mine site near Timmins, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 5x2 schedule.  As such, if you do not live in the area, we will require relocation.
