Mine Ventilation Technician

Dimensions

They will be reporting to the Senior Ventilation Technician.  Accountable for maintaining regulatory compliance with respect to the mine ventilation system.  The position involves underground operations in a narrow vein gold mine.

Purpose

Provide direction and support to the operations group to ensure ventilation systems are designed, installed and maintained in accordance with company policy.  Monitors and initiates repairs to the various auxiliary ventilation systems to ensure that regulatory compliance is maintained.  Ensures ventilations surveys are conducted to standards with appropriate checks to ensure accurate results in a timely manner.

Safety & Sustainability Expectations

  • Be proactive with respect to safety a
  • Ensure regulatory and inter-company procedural compliance.nd help design and operate a site that is the safest possible, through input and thoughts shared with others.

  • Generate accurate ventilation surveys.
  • Monitors and initiates repairs to the various auxiliary ventilation systems to ensure that regulatory compliance is maintained

Promoting Safety and Sustainability

  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing and new technology applicable to underground ventilation.
  • Promote and adhere to Company safety policies.

Mine Ventilation

  • Designs and schedules installation of auxiliary ventilation systems.
  • Monitors and initiates repairs to the various auxiliary ventilation systems to ensure that regulatory compliance is maintained.
  • Conducts mine ventilation surveys and maintains accurate ventilation plans for use in planning, operations and emergency situations.
  • Monitors performance of main ventilation system and gives input into required upgrades to infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoots ventilation problems.

Blast Clearing and Emergency Situations

  • Provides operations with blast clearing instructions to ensure blast gases are cleared in a timely manner.
  • Provide accurate ventilation plans and advise to the management team in event of an emergency situation in collaboration with the Ventilation Engineer whenever possible.

Training & Experience

  • Technician or Technologist Diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
  • Preferably 2 years of mine operation and engineering experience.  
  • Experience in a leadership role is an asset, not requirement.
  • Be technically competent and have a good understanding of U/G narrow vein mining.  
  • Have strong communication and people skills.  
  • Be focused, clear, and decisive.
