Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio.

About The Role:
A collaborative and engaging leader you will support your dynamic team of professionals to implement initiatives and programs, and oversee systems relating to Sustainability and External Relations at our Newmont Tanami Operations. The position reports directly to the Sustainability & External Relations Manager and is responsible for a team of 2 to 7 direct and indirect reports plus a number of permanent and campaign based contractor/consultant professionals.

 

Accountabilities will include:

  • Mining Management Plan collation and commitments implementation and assurance;
  • Northern Territory and Commonwealth regulatory commitments;
  • Consolidated Mining Agreement Environmental Management and Project Approvals provisions;
  • Major project social and environmental evaluations and regulatory approvals;
  • Hazardous materials management;
  • Water management;
  • Waste management inclusive of tailings and run of mine waste;
  • Flora and fauna management; 
  • Cultural heritage approvals implementation and disturbance management;
  • Closure and reclamation; and
  • Internal education and awareness.

 

About You:
You will be tertiary qualified in a related discipline with significant practical experience, preferably in the resources industry.  A well organised leader capable of supervising and coaching others, you will also possess proven consultation, facilitation and interpersonal skills that will enable you to build rapport with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
