Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located 40km from the site offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

The role

As a Senior Process Technician, you will support the Processing Shift Supervisor in the day-to-day operational activities and contribute to the safe and efficient running of the Newmont Tanami Operations (NTO) Mill Processing Plant.

In this role, you will

Accountabilities will involve safety, environmental and health and day to day operations and training, with your focus being on maintaining high operating standards, and being a subject matter expert for operational personnel and will act in the position of Process Shift Supervisor providing coverage as required. Specifically, this position will have responsibility in delivery of the following for the Process Operations Team:

  • Safe, reliable and efficient operation of the NTO Mill Processing Plant
  • Substitute as Process Shift Supervisor to provide coverage when supervisor is on leave, training or involved in meetings
  • Deliver and monitor training and coaching of area operators supporting the Shift Supervisor
  • Conduct operator training and competency assessments (with support from the L&D Trainer)
  • Operate all sections of the processing plant and ensure that prestart and operational area checks and inspections occur at specified frequencies.
  • Trouble shoot issues
  • Place Level 2 isolations and prepare authority to work permits
  • Identify and escalate maintenance items
  • Ability to provide Gold Room coverage and operate gold recovery circuits
  • Environmental monitoring and adherence
  • Continuous improvement activities

The person

You will be an experienced gold processing technician, with sound understanding of processing methods used within the Tanami processing plant. You will have a experience operating gold processing circuits. You will be someone who personally demonstrates a positive attitude towards working safely and in compliance with Environmental and Social Governance and actively seeks to consistently uphold and demonstrate the Newmont Values.  You will hold yourself and others accountable to achieve established goals, lead by example and possess a strong sense of ownership of individual, team and department accountabilities. In addition, your high level of motivation, decisiveness, the ability to communicate effectively across various departments and high level interpersonal and leadership qualities will see you excel in this position.

Working conditions

The role offers a FIFO roster from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin and Alice Springs.
