Project Exploration Geologist

Newmont Goldcorp Tanami provides a fully equipped 1200-bed village, 40km from the mine, offering modern leisure facilities to the workforce who FIFO directly from Darwin, Alice Springs, Brisbane and Perth.

The Role

Reporting to the Mine Geology Superintendent or Senior Mine Geologist, the Project Exploration Geologist will assist in the short to long term (1 month – 5 years) planning, design and implementation of underground and surface exploration programs to facilitate Inventory through Indicated Resource additions to the Tanami resource base. 

 The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, Darwin & Alice Springs ONLY. 

 Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Help maintain operational efficiency through implementation of a schedule of exploration activities and effective liaison with the Project Mine Geologists and Mine Planning Engineers.
  • Continually seek to improve the effectiveness of Geology Department processes and systems.  This should include the provision of technical support on geological matters and software use.
  • Assist in the identification, tracking, review (rate/rank) and close-out / advance of ‘opportunity targets’.
  • Ensure that quality results are delivered on time to meet departmental resource and reserve deliverables.
  • Assist in the preparation Exploration Reports, monthly, quarterly and annual.
  • Assist with completing all relevant legislative documentation and ensure compliance with all regulatory, statutory and CLC requirements.
  • Contribute to departmental IMS compliance by completing periodic formal document control for all relevant documents. 
  • Provision of appropriate levels of leadership in daily, weekly and monthly departmental meetings.
  • Provision of training to other members of the Geology Team to improve departmental and individual skill sets.
The Person
  • BSc (Hons) or MSc in Geological / Geosciences.
  • A minimum of 5 years operational experience within different geological terrains, with a preference for both gold exploration and production geology experience
  • Familiarity and experience of the Australian mining industry and associated mining regulations.
  • The interpersonal skills required to supervise drilling contractors.
  • GIS and Modelling Software proficiency (Leapfrog, ArcGIS).
  • Administration and Microsoft Office Skills.
