Maintenance Technician - Crane Operator

Our Underground Tanami Operations is located in the Tanami Desert, 540km north-west of Alice Springs, on Aboriginal freehold land. The operation produces 500koz of gold annually and is currently Newmont’s lowest cost operation.  With a mine life extending past 2036 Newmont is investing heavily in the construction of a new production shaft to 1,200m vertical depth.  The operation has delivered outstanding Reserve and Resource growth in the last 10 years and subsequently enjoys consistent exploration funding to facilitate an exciting and productive program. The processing plant is approximately 40km from the mine.

The Role

Reporting to the Fixed Plant Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician - Crane Operator is accountable for providing safe efficient crane services required for the repair, servicing and maintenance of Newmont Tanami’s equipment. Equipment may include but not limited to pumps, mill, crusher, conveyors, tanks and ancillary items. The crane operator will also be expected to perform other maintenance activities (other than operating cranes), and assist other trades people.

The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin & Alice Springs ONLY.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Operating cranes utilised for maintenance and/or sustaining projects work
  • Performing maintenance tasks in-accordance with relevant qualifications/tickets/competency
  • Adhering to the work management process, including, but not limited to, completion of daily time confirmation with the correct job numbers, accurate time recording and work history.
  • Performing workplace inspections as requested and providing feedback.
  • Assisting in the improvement of all Newmont systems and processes wherever possible.

The Person

  • Open crane ticket is necessary
  • At least 3 years’ experience in the mineral industry.
  • Trade qualification highly desired
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Have excellent knowledge in relation to the subject matter

 

To be considered for this role, you must be able to meet the site access requirements by having a current driver’s license, passing a police clearance and pre-employment medical.
