Newmont Tanami Operations provides a fully equipped 1200-bed village, 40km from the mine, offering modern leisure facilities to the workforce who FIFO directly from Darwin, Alice Springs, Brisbane and Perth.

The Role

Reporting to the Granites Operations Fixed Plant Maintenance Superintendent, the Mechanical Supervisor is responsible for coordinating all weekly and daily mechanical maintenance activities in a safe and efficient manner.


The role is based in Tanami and offers an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin & Alice Springs ONLY.

Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:
  • Ensure safe execution of maintenance work as per the agreed schedule by collaborating daily with maintenance staff. Providing clear direction and expected outcomes in safety, quality of repair and turnaround times.
  • Ensure regulatory competency and compliance of individuals is maintained.
  • Manage the planning and execution of unplanned (break-in) work and the re-scheduling of tasks as required.
  • Prioritising and assigning work; provide instruction, assistance and direction to all staff and contractors in a courteous manner.
  • Responsible for workshop tooling. Ensuring unsafe tooling is attended to promptly.
  • Regular workshop floor inspections to oversee maintenance practices, ensuring they are within the safety guidelines and standard operating practices.
  • Conduct safety incidents investigation and conduct a proactive effort to reduce / eliminate incidents.
  • Facilitate effective and engaging pre-shift meetings
  • Adhere to the work management process, and promote work management process discipline within the team, conducting regular system compliance checks to ensure adherence.
The Person
  • Trade qualified.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Fixed plant maintenance in a processing plant experience is required.
  • Exposure to industry maintenance planning techniques and computerized maintenance systems.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage time effectively and leadership qualities.
  • High level of self-motivation.
  • Good communication and team work skills essential.



To be considered for this role, you must be able to meet the site access requirements by having a current driver’s license, passing a police clearance and pre-employment medical.
