Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa.  Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio.

 

An opportunity exists for a dynamic, highly experienced Technical Advisor to join the TE2  Project team. You will have a background in crushing, conveying and hoisting with specific experience related to underground shaft and hoisting systems.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Business Readiness Maintenance Specialist, the Business Readiness Mechanical Technical Advisor will apply knowledge, skills and experience to effectively plan, organise and coordinate business readiness activities.  You will be involved in all phases of business readiness activities including but not limited to identification and cataloguing of spares, optimising, installation, commissioning and deployment of maintenance and operational systems support in term of Mine Maintenance (MIN-MAN) for the Tanami Expansion 2 (TE 2) project.

 

In this role you will:

  • Gain extensive knowledge of the NTO mine site, existing infrastructure, mining equipment, maintenance strategies, operational procedures, supply chain, health and safety, logistics, site conditions and key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders for the review of the maintenance requirements for equipment forming part of the design.
  • Liaise with global and site technical, engineering, operational and maintenance personnel to assist in planning the execution of the maintenance requirements.
  • Engage with site and industry equipment subject matter experts to get a better understanding of maintenance and operational requirements.
  • Support the design and implementation of commissioning plans.
  • Support the risk analysis of commissioning plans and activities.
  • Provide weekly reporting to the Business Readiness Asset Management Lead for the project to enable accurate forecasting.
  • Ensure compliance with all Newmont’s global asset management standards, guidance’s and review processes.
  • Follow the processes, procedures, metrics and tools for mine maintenance that will be required and developed during Stage 4 to adequately support the mining operations underground using management operating system guidelines, as applicable.
  • Identification and registration of classified plant with the required government organisation (NT Work Safe).
  • Support the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) as the TE2 MHS hoisting subject matter expert for maintainable equipment to determine the most appropriate maintenance strategies to implement to ensure the equipment performs to meet the functional requirements.
  • Identify and create maintenance and operational material assessment, decision making and cataloguing in conjunction with the Supply Chain department.
  • Develop SAP Bill of Materials (BOMS) of maintenance materials required to support the maintenance strategies.
  • Identification of specialist maintenance tooling required to support the maintenance strategies.
  • Assist in the development of maintenance work instructions (Routes Zones, Safety Status and STP’s).
  • Identification and assist the development of operational work instructions and standard task procedures.
  • Identification and compliance to H&S for equipment forming part of the design.
  • Development of plant specific training packages for equipment forming part of the design.
  • As the mechanical SME provide technical support during construction activities.
  • Assist in the construction verification process to ensure equipment is installed as per design, scope and site standard (Works to Go, Punch Lists).
  • Responsible for transitioning from construction to operations for the mechanical equipment installed as part of design.
  • Handover of equipment forming part of the design to required global and NTO stakeholders.
  • Responsible for short term mechanical operational support immediately after handover.
  • Assist in the development of job descriptions for the resources required to operate and maintain the equipment installed as part of the design.
  • Assist in the identification of changes/additions to management systems (MOS & ERP)

 

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience in the mining industry
  • A self-starter with the ability to identify maintenance requirements associated with a vertical shaft hoisting system and crushing circuit along with the associated surface and underground infrastructure
  • Shaft and hoisting systems (Winders)
  • Primary Crushing circuits
  • Conveyor circuits and associated infrastructure
  • A Mechanical Trade Qualification or Tertiary Qualification
  • Familiarisation with relevant Australian Standards and applicable legislation pertaining to machinery and winders
  • Experience in the preparation of FMEA reviews for new and existing equipment
  • Experience in materials assessment and cataloguing process
  • Experience in project delivery and execution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
