To provide survey support to Mine Operations by assisting surveyors in the areas of Pit, Waste dump, Stockpiles and projects. Demonstrate Newmont’s values and ensure safety at work areas. Assist This Surveyor position is expected to demonstrate an ability to develop towards Instrument Man role with additional responsibility.  

Essential Duties

  • Deliver own prescribed outcomes and / or provide support services, by applying Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environment systems, policies and protocols.
  • Comply with all HSLP, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont’s Integrated Management System.
  • Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every employee under or assigned to his/her supervision.
  • Assure that safety standards are adhered to.
  • Attend monthly safety inspections and meetings.
  • Assist Surveyors on the field to conduct and undertake the surveys works for the Mine.
  • Carry survey equipment, sticks and stakes to assist execution.
  • Ensure batteries are charged, equipment stored/maintained, and vehicles are clean and/stocked.
  • Establish, operate and adjust equipment at surveying job sites.
  • Ability to assist survey tasks
  • Follow procedures related to environmental sustainability
  • Report environmental incidents and support investigations
  • Collaborate with business partners in the best interest of the company 

Training & Experience

  • Secondary School (MULO/HAVO/LTS), Prior Learning Assessment Equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the mining industry.
  • Able to clearly explain tasks and inspire others with varying backgrounds and perspectives

  • Professionally bi-lingual, with demonstrated ability to read, write and converse in both Dutch and English at a very high standard.

Working Conditions

  • The position is located on the Merian mine site in Suriname, working in the open mine maintenance workshop and performing maintenance in the mine operations area outdoors. The administrative part of the work will be performed in a shared office.
  • Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment.
  • Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace
