Senior Labor Relations Specialist

Ensure, inspect and provide support in the correct application of current labor regulations, as well as the policies, regulations, agreements, and internal procedures of the company and those that legally assist the obligation to the company with its contracting companies, in order to minimize legal contingencies, labor and conflicts that may be generated as a result of the non-observance of these regulations.

Essential Duties

  • Supervise the continuous compliance in the field of the internal rules of the Company and labor legislation in order to proactively avoid claims that could generate labor conflicts and non-compliance. 
  • Coordinate & participate actively in union negotiations.
  • Lead union negotiations and assume decision-making responsibilities in absence of the HR manager.
  • Manage and advise on the budged forecasting related to labor relations activities in absence of the HR manager.
  • Develop and implement labor relations strategies to minimize legal and labor contingencies, in coordination with the HR manager.
  • Perform labor audits
  • Participate in the investigation of accidents/incidents, compliance with corrective actions, and ensure a correct application of the Internal Labor Regulations, Internal Regulations on Health and Safety, Work Procedures, and current labor legislation.
  • Carry out permanent monitoring of the employment situation of Merian.
  • Know and comply with the Internal Work Regulations and the Code of Ethics and Conduct and promote the culture of Inclusion and Diversity programs.
  • Ensure site industrial relations practices are consistent with Newmont Suriname procedures, strategic intent, and within Surinamese legislative parameters 

Training & Experience

  • Deep HR generalist knowledge.
  • CLA agreements with unions.
  • Knowledge of labor law and staff regulations.
  • 10+ years of relevant general human resources experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years as HR Manager/Head of Area preferably in services companies related to heavy industries (Gas/Mining)
  • Bachelor’s degree is required (Business Adm, Industrial Eng., Industrial Relations, Law, other HR-related)
  • Advanced degree in Human Resources Management, Organization Development, or Business is desired (HR certification is preferred)
  • Evidence of strong leadership and coaching skills
  • Strong expertise in labor relations.

Working Conditions

  • The position is located on the site/office
  • Position may be required to work under flexible work arrangements, which includes some days working from office/site and some days working from home.
  • Position may be required to travel to, and assist other domestic and international sites
