The Security Investigator is responsible for managing the investigative security processes by utilizing policies and procedures made available in order to protect assets, property and information of NEWMONT Suriname. 

Essential Duties

  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of all security policies/procedures regarding crime and investigations and ensure full compliance with Suriname Mining and other Regulations. 
  • Ensure consistent improvement in security deliverables (Investigations, Security Audits, Background checks, etc.).  
  • Initiate and monitor preventive and precautionary measures to deter criminal activities at NEWMONT Operations. 
  • Ensure that appropriate equipment, devices and resources are procured for the effective running of the Investigations Section
  • Assist with Performance Management, training and development of subordinates in the Security Department.
  • Establish a strong relationship with key external law enforcing bodies (Suriname Police, “Commissie Ordering Goudsector”, Judiciary, Suriname Intelligence Service, Inspectorate of Mines, Military)
  • Build an effective and reliable information acquisition platform to use when investigating all security situations.
  • Provide advice to NEWMONT Security Department based on intelligence gathered from investigations
  • Compile weekly, monthly and quarterly reports on crimes, thefts and illegal mining activities carried out on NEWMONT concession 
  • Ensure compliance with NEWMONT Security Standards
  • Adhere to company principles, ethics and values with integrity 
  • Ability to function as Bullion Shipment Commander during bullion shipments.
  • Understand all role and responsibilities of Security Department members and Security Contractor in order to conduct effective investigations.
  • Build evidence based case files for disciplinary hearings, criminal cases.
  • Act as point of contact with all Police, OGS and Military members on Merian and Sabajo Hills.
  • Conduct all ASM related incident investigations including monthly mapping of SSM activities around Merian Mine, Sabajo Hills and Exploration areas.
  • Lead VIP protection tasks during visits to Suriname.
  • Act as Supervisor for Response Teams during absence of Senior Operations Supervisor.
  • Stand in as acting Security Manger during absence of the Security Manager.

Training & Experience

  • Secondary school certification
  • Police or Military background;
  • At least (5) years of training on exposure to security issues and practices in a security environment or military/police experience preferred. Should have security/intelligence systems and reporting protocol.
  • Strong proven investigative and reporting skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
  • Proven leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills with high level of integrity and the ability to interact with people of diverse cultures
  • Able to work well under pressure, change and ambiguity
  • Gold Mining experience will be an advantage;
  • Computer Literacy in Microsoft Word, Power point, Excel and Outlook.
  • Have a valid Suriname drivers license;
  • No Criminal Record or any Human Rights violations.
  • Site induction and mandatory training as required by the Company.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to work 14/7 Shift Schedule, long hours and with little supervision. This position is located at the Merian Mine Site
  • Medical fitness for the position and environment. 
  • Must be a Surinamese National
