Maintenance Supervisor - Tire Fleet

The Mine Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance of rubber tire heavy duty and mining equipment by completing preventive maintenance schedules, restoring, repairing, rebuilding or replacing faulty or inoperative components and parts.

The supervisor is also responsible for supervising the maintenance staff and organizing the workforce according to the scheduled program or to the immediate breakdown occurrences.

Responsible of foreseeing that all maintenance activities taking place are carry out within all Safety Policies that applied for the situation.

Essential Duties

  • Perform daily workplace inspections to identify hazards and assign actions for resolution of identified hazards
  • Complete safety training and certification as required by site and departmental procedure
  • Leadership in Risk Identification processes and develop STP’s/SOP’s/JHA’s as required for safe work execution.
  • Maintain records as per the prescribed IMS standards.
  • Follow and implement all established safe and efficient procedures for all routine tasks in compliance with legislation and Newmont Standards.
  • Team mentality and willingness to assist in office management and organization procedures
  • Accomplishes maintenance human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations, monitoring, appraising job contributions, recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Meets maintenance operational standards by contributing maintenance information to strategic plans and reviews
  • Meets maintenance financial standards by providing periodical budget information, monitoring expenditures, identifying variances, and implementing timely corrective actions.
  • Evaluates functionality and reliability of the equipment by conferring with Mine Maintenance Planning department, identifying problems and requirements.
  • Maintains function and reliability of systems and associated equipment by implementing a preventive maintenance scheduled program; operating and testing the equipment; restoring, rebuilding, or replacing faulty components and parts.
  • Improves functionality and reliability of the equipment by studying performance results, identifying, recommending, and implementing changes.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical publications, etc.
  • Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed. 
  • Serve as a liaison between managers and employees, schedule appointments and meetings.
  • Prepare presentations and reports for meetings.
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
  • Perform project coordination and assignments as requested.
  • Ensure department’s compliance with the requirement of Government of Suriname’s Agencies, Newmont Suriname lending institutions, shareholders’ environmental, health and Safety legislation and company regulations.
  • Lead safety meetings and participate in safety audits for the department.

Training & Experience

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
High School, Secondary School (MULO/HAVO/VWO/LBO), Plus a technical diploma (Natin/AMTO/IMEAO) trades, or special studies certification plus 6-8yrs experience  in a related field 
Technical College or bachelor’s degree on a Technical or Mechanical maintenance field is desirable.
Supervisory experience is a plus.
Holds a national driver’s license.
Strong computer literacy (MS Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
Ability to handle a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to organize and prioritize job duties.
Supervisory experience is a plus.
Experience with manual and computerized maintenance systems.
Experience with Ellipse /GTI/SAP.
Skills and Abilities: 
A Minimum of nine (9) year experience in maintaining heavy mobile equipment in an open pit mining operation 
Ability to lead the team that is responsible for mechanical maintenance on track type mobile equipment. 
Proficient in all Maintenance Technician III (Grade 6A) job requirements.
The Maintenance Supervisor must have excellent computer literacy (Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, MS Project)
Ability to work with any kind of Planning, Scheduling and any Mobile Maintenance Computer Software. 
Interpersonal skills to interact with employees at various levels in the organization
Excellent Sranang Tongo, Dutch and English language skills.
Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication skills.
Sound information monitoring and analytical skills.
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with peers and colleagues. 
Ability to develop the main activities such as; Supervision, Customer Service, Staffing, Technical Leadership, Teamwork and Job knowledge, Electronics Troubleshooting (specialized equipment like Hitachi and Atlas Copco Troubleshooting) and General technical understanding
Must be able to be a “Multi-Task” person.
Ability to resolve problems, by applying and educating the “Out of the Box” thinking philosophy and safety hazard recognition.
Implements safety, production, productivity, quality, and customer service standards.
Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal codes and regulations.
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license appropriate to the requirements of the vehicle being driven.
To be open, autonomous, have teaching skills and a desire to improve the quality of training given to employees.

Working Conditions

  • The position is located on the Merian mine site in Suriname, working in the mine conducting on the job training performing simulator training in a designated area. The administrative part of the work will be performed in a shared office. 14 days on, 12hrs. work, 7 days off
  • Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment;
