Superintendent, Occupational Health and Safety

The role of Superintendent, Occupational Health and Safety is part of the Health/Safety and Training Department. This person is responsible for rigorously enforcing the health/safety and training standards and requirements for all site operations. This is an advisory role with other departments. The Superintendent adheres to the company's principles by adopting a management style that is oriented toward sustainable development, the five pillars of Newmont, an operation for excellence and the organization's code of conduct.


  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of occupational health and safety policies and programs for the entire site according to Newmont's standards.
  • Advise and support the operators and departments in their leadership roles in OHS
  • Develop, implement, update and maintain the OHS management system
  • Develop, promote and maintain the organization's prevention program with daily involvement
  • Conduct risk assessments and determine the required prevention methods
  • Plan training activities related to various OHS programs
  • Ensure that prevention activities are carried out
  • Respect, know and promote the company’s regulations and policies and with regard to health and safety


  • Ensure continuous improvement in results and the methods implemented to achieve them
  • Solve problems related to the mine site, perform various operational activities and recommend measures to improve his/her department's productivity
  • Manage the personnel, evaluate performance and see to employee development in OHS
  • Compile data, produce and present reports to management
  • Ensure good management of operating costs
  • Perform all other tasks related to the performance of the duties of the position.
  • Additional tasks as requested.


  • University or college degree in health and safety and/or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in health and safety in a mining or industrial environment
  • Computer skills including MS Office suite
  • Have completed mining modules 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7
  • 5 to 7 years' experience as a supervisor
  • Bilingualism (mandatory)
