The Senior Land Advisor assists the Land Manager in the management of Newmont’s portfolio of land and mining related interests in the Australian region.  The principal role of the Land team is to manage all aspects of mining and land tenure related approvals, assets and associated activities for Newmont’s operational and exploration sites.

Essential Duties

  • Manage Newmont’s contractual obligations under the various agreements.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Newmont’s key stakeholders in the community, mining industry and local and state/territory governments in order to support Newmont’s development goals.
  • Compile reports on upcoming actions for issue to relevant internal stakeholders and ensure compliance with statutory obligations. Acquire, maintain and divest land and various legal interests in land, in support of the company’s development plans.
  • Arrange via internal business systems payment of amounts due for land and mining related interests and agreement obligations and ensure payments are made within due dates.
  • Draft extensions of term, exemption statutory declarations and other statutory reports as necessary for the business to meet its compliance obligations. Compile expenditure information to meet statutory commitments.
  • Ensure land records are maintained through management of the land management database. Assist with implementation of new systems as required to meet business requirements.
  • Develop, implement and maintain auditable standards and procedures for mining and land tenure, joint venture and related activities. Monitor ground availability for strategic acquisition, socialise opportunities within business and assist in acquiring ground and progressing towards grant. 
  • Provide land management advice and assistance to the business.
  • Draft, co-ordinate and arrange execution of documentation in alignment with business processes.
  • Maintain a current awareness of developments in the mining industry, competitor activity and legislative changes across multiple jurisdictions.

Training & Experience

  • Proficiency with relevant business systems is desirable, particularly the Lease control database and SAP accounting software.
  • Extensive experience in a similar role within natural resources
  • Knowledge of mining and land legislation in Western Australia and other regions and a working knowledge of native title and other related legislation together with the administration of joint ventures
  • A commitment to compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and other applicable standards.
  • The ability to read and interpret contracts and agreements
  • An ability to deal confidently with complex and ambiguous issues and conflicting priorities and to develop creative solutions at times working within very strict timeframes
  • Knowledge and proficiency in land access processes and procedures in accordance with relevant acts and regulations related to mining, native title, heritage and land administration.
