Principal Advisor - Control Systems

The role

The Principal Advisor – Control Systems is responsible for identifying opportunities to improve and lead control systems design, control network upgrades and obsolescence mitigation projects. Also ensuring timely delivery of engineering solutions to internal and external stakeholders, including Newmont capital projects teams.

In this role, you will

  • Audit the integrity and reliability of control systems installed across Newmont sites globally and assist the Manager OSH Projects to identify, assess and execute projects which progress Newmont standardization objectives and the technical resources strategic plan.
  • Perform detailed engineering of control systems hardware and operational technology networks, develop AFE’s and capital budgets, Project Execution plans and Business Readiness plans. Justify capital projects, manage costs and maintain accurate forecasts.
  • Develop customized hardware and I/O sub-system designs for seamless integration of new equipment into existing Control Systems on Brownfield sites, while maintaining continuous operations.  
  • Support engineering and design of Greenfield Control Systems and Networks which comply with Newmont Global Standards and Specifications.
  • Manage rollout of control system projects globally and support contractors and consultants to safely achieve project timelines.

The person

  • Strong understanding of electrical and electronic control system theory, design and operations.
  • Able to understand and communicate complex strategies to rapidly resolve problems, implement solutions and make appropriate decisions.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and facilitation skills across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to adapt to and effectively implement change.
  • Assertive, self-motivated and an ability to build and maintain collaborative, productive professional relationships.
  • Experience in engineering large-scale control system projects, preferably in the mining industry.
