Purpose

The S&P Assistant Superintendent is responsible for managing the Sourcing and Procurement function for all Goods in Newmont Suriname to ensure all the needs and requirements for Operations are met, In charge of developing, planning and executing Newmont Suriname´s purchasing strategy, policies and guidelines to drive shared goals and objectives across the entire Supply Chain, to drive sustainable efficiency and effectiveness in the Sourcing and Procurement function. Participate in enhancing Newmont’s overall Procure to pay (P2P) performance through the close interaction with AP Suriname Lead and AP Regional to ensure an effective and efficient P2P operation. Accountable for ~ US$180 million annually in spend for Sourcing and Procurement of Goods.

More specifically, approve and manage commercial aspects of all Goods procurement activities throughout  internal customer departments and in accordance with regional standards, policies and procedures, while at the same time ensuring a high level of support service to internal customer departments for goods procurement bidding, negotiating, purchase agreement and order preparation, administration and management and applying an ethical, efficient, risk managed, consistent and cost effective approach at every stage of the process.  Goods procurement requires a strong emphasis on appropriate buying strategies, accurate documentation, expediting, and administration.

Essential Duties

  • Develop, establish, implement and maintain procurement policy, procedures and systems, and monitor the adherence of these procedures within Regional and local SC and suppliers.
  • Ensure successful procurement of Goods through effective service and supply agreements in terms of costs, quality, lead-time, quantity, warranty, support, and availability.
  • Track S&P performance targets and indicators, including service level agreements (SLA’s) and $ savings targets.  Provide feedback and support as needed to meet all targets.
  • Supervise a team of 7 local Buyers and 3 Expeditors.
  • Select, train and develop Buyers personnel to form an effective team and monitor individual staff development plans in line with progression planning.
  • Provide the leadership and management of staff through coaching, enabling, and facilitating work in a team environment. 
  • Assign work activities and projects, monitor work flow, review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
  • Develop Goods procurement plans, goals, and strategies based on user department requirements and provide regular progress status reports of all Goods and Services supply activities.
  • Communicate purchasing vision and build strong working relationships with internal client executives. 
  • Review, plan, organize, coordinate, execute and control the activities of the Procurement Goods– Ops Department related to business process, technology, skill development and corporate supply chain initiatives.
  • Manage Goods supply agreements and supplier administrative matters relating to compliance and interaction, claims, warranties, return and repair, hazmat management, disputes, invoicing/payments, correspondence, review meetings, back charges, taxes, insurance, liability, indemnities.
  • Develop and maintain standard service and supply agreement documents and train staff to prepare formal service and supply documentation customized to suit specific goods procurement requirements for operation activities.
  • Ensure timely and professional service to internal customer departments in the preparation and evaluation of bids for Goods, negotiation with bidders, recommendation to management for approvals, preparation of supply agreement documentation, issuance of award of agreements, orders and regret letters, general commercial administration and overall supplier management and close out of orders.
  • Provide specific focus and compliance to Goods supply agreement management and supplier activities with respect to Regional and local standards for health safety and loss prevention, environmental management, Social Responsibility and Ethic & Compliance.
  • Support on preparation of contracting budget and monitor expenditures.
  • Represent SC in cross-functional regular meetings with strategic suppliers

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Engineering or other related degrees, 10 to 15 years’ experience in a business environment, manufacturing including 10 years’ experience in the mining industry; preferably within Supply Chain Management in senior positions managing complex negotiations and contracts. 
  • Strong computer literacy (Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, MS Project)
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, preferably with working SAP experience
  • Contract negotiation and development skills strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Principles and practices of budgeting (operating and capital), accounting, contracting, human resources, information technology, and performance standards.
  • Read, interpret and properly apply Policies and Procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Frequent work at a computer/monitor or keyboard.
  • Will be required to access mining and processing areas, rough terrain on a frequent basis/may be based on a mining site.
  • Collaboration and interaction is expected across the regional supply chain organizations as well as across other service and operational areas of Newmont.
  • Position may be required to travel to, and assist other domestic matters related to Supply Chain activities.
