About this role


Lead the Medium-Term Planning (MTP) group and Short-Term Planning (STP). Generate pit and phase designs through pit limit and pit shells analysis. Review designs and look for improvement opportunities.  Generate life-of-mine plans and provide guidance for medium and short term planners. Analyze various strategic scenarios and communicate plan improvement opportunities. Execute cost analysis and lead budget and forecast processes. Coach and train senior engineers to improve planning skills regarding short term planning and medium term planning. 

In this role you will

Health & Safety

  • Deliver own prescribed outcomes and / or provide support services, by applying Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environment systems, policies and protocols.
  • Comply with all HSLP, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont’s Integrated Management System.

Operational Excellence & Growth

  • Generate pit and phase designs through pit limit and pit shells analysis. 
  • Review designs and look for improvement opportunities
  • Generate life-of-mine plans and provide guidance for medium and short term planners
  • Assist to analyze various strategic scenarios and communicate plan improvement opportunities. 
  • Execute unit cost analysis and apply principles to planning processes.  
  • Strong computer skills including but not limited to MS Office suite, Database, etc.…
  • Manage weekly and monthly plan processes and present plans to stakeholders.
  • Reconcile and analyze plan assumptions with actual performance and come up with improvement opportunities.
  • Competency to operate standard business software and application specialized software with a high level of skill and accuracy. 
  • Have a clear understanding in open pit mining engineering principles such as ore body description, block model, geometrical considerations, geotechnical engineering, surveying, drill and blast, pit limit analysis, pit and phase designs, waste dump designs, road construction, production scheduling and engineering economic analysis.
  • Detail knowledge of pit limit analysis and mine design using a software such as Minesight.
  • Advance user Minesight.
  • Ability to produce pit and phase designs
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities
  • Detail knowledge of equipment requirements calculation and related software such as Haulage/Minehaul.
  • Detail knowledge of costing
  • Detail knowledge of cutoff grade calculations and be able to apply them in mine planning
  • Ability to generate life-of-mine plans and analyze strategic options
  • Ability to generate pit shells and analyze pit limits
  • Detail knowledge of mining economy for applications in mine planning and projects
  • Detail knowledge of Investment System and ability to manage processes
  • Lead and manage forecast and budget processes
  • Lead and manage strategic planning processes
  • Manage Reserves and Resources processes
  • Ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities using the Full Potential (FP) model

Your training, skills and experience checklist

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations): 
University Degree and 6-10 years of experience in a related field 

 

Experience: 
Minimum 10-12 years of practical experience in Open Pit Mining or related field

Working Conditions and location

Where you will be located!


This position is located at Merian, project sites. Merian is a remote site located in a warm, humid tropical rainforest environment

The Merian mine is located in North-eastern Suriname, approx. 98 kilometers southeast of the capital city of Paramaribo; 60 kilometers south of Moengo.

Accommodation is in a camp/village environment near the workplace 

Suriname has a tropical climate with dry and two rainy seasons with anticipated tropical rainfall of 1.5m to 2.5m of rain per year.

This is an expat position, the individual is required to work 6 weeks at the site, 3 weeks off fly-in fly-out arrangement, being based ideally in the Americas or Europe. The incumbent is expected to spend most of her/his time in the field, with some office work.
