Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.

Purpose

The Project Scheduler plays a pivotal role in ensuring the successful and timely completion of projects by developing and maintaining accurate schedules that align with project objectives and constraints. Utilizing scheduling software and methodologies, they collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to create comprehensive project timelines, identify critical path activities, and allocate resources effectively. By continuously monitoring schedule performance, analysing potential risks, and implementing mitigation strategies, the Project Scheduler helps to optimize project efficiency, minimize delays, and ensure that project milestones are achieved in accordance with established timelines. Through their meticulous planning and coordination efforts, the Project Scheduler contributes significantly to the overall success and profitability of projects within the organization.

Essential Duties

  1. Schedule Development: Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop comprehensive project schedules, including timelines, milestones, and critical path analysis. 
  2. Software Utilization: Utilize project scheduling software (Microsoft Project) to develop, maintain, and analyze project schedules. Ensure that project teams are trained on scheduling tools and methodologies as needed. 
  3. Schedule Maintenance: Maintain and update project schedules regularly to reflect changes in scope, resources, and constraints. Ensure that schedules are accurate, realistic, and aligned with project objectives. 
  4. Resource Allocation: Work closely with project engineers and resource managers to allocate resources effectively and optimize project schedules. Identify potential resource constraints and recommend adjustments to ensure project success.
  5. Risk Analysis: Conduct schedule risk analysis to identify potential schedule impacts and develop mitigation strategies to address them. Monitor schedule variances and deviations, and implement corrective actions as needed to keep projects on track. 
  6. Communication: Communicate schedule updates, milestones, and critical issues to project teams, stakeholders, and senior management. Facilitate regular schedule review meetings to ensure alignment and consensus on project timelines and priorities. 
  7. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in scheduling methodologies, tools, and techniques. Implement best practices and lessons learned from previous projects to enhance scheduling efficiency and effectiveness.
     

Training & Experience

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project scheduling, preferably in capital project management, mining or construction industry. 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in project scheduling software such as Microsoft Project, or similar tools. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex schedules and identify potential risks and opportunities. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. 
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality in schedule development and maintenance. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Willingness to work in challenging environment. 
  • Friendly, courteous and professional manner when dealing with people both over the telephone and in person.  
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Dutch and/or Sranan Tongo is a plus
     

Working Conditions

  • Able to work at the Merian Site, a remote area 
  • Able to live for 14 days in a Camp environment 
  • Able to deal with different cultures
