Purpose

The Procurement Senior Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the procurement process within the Projects Department at Merian, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of goods and services to meet project needs. Their primary objective is to develop and implement procurement strategies that optimize supplier relationships, streamline purchasing procedures, and achieve cost savings while maintaining quality standards. The Procurement Senior Supervisor will lead a team of procurement personnel, coordinate with internal stakeholders to understand procurement requirements, negotiate contracts with suppliers, and monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and delivery schedules. Additionally, they will stay abreast of market trends, assess supplier capabilities, and identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the procurement function. Overall, the Procurement Senior Supervisor plays a critical role in supporting Merian Projects Department by managing the procurement process effectively and efficiently.

Essential Duties

  • Procurement Strategy Development: Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with the company's objectives and budgetary constraints. Continuously evaluate and optimize procurement processes to enhance efficiency and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and manage supplier performance to ensure timely delivery of high-quality goods and services. Identify and onboard new suppliers as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels and ensure adequate stock levels of critical materials while minimizing excess inventory and stockouts. Implement inventory control measures to optimize inventory turnover and reduce carrying costs. 
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to procurement activities. Identify and mitigate procurement-related risks to safeguard the company's interests.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of procurement professionals, providing guidance, support, and training as necessary. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the procurement team. 
  • Budget Management: Collaborate with finance and other relevant stakeholders to develop procurement budgets, track expenses, and identify opportunities for cost savings and cost optimization. 
  • Reporting and Analysis: Prepare regular reports and analysis on procurement performance metrics, including cost savings, supplier performance, inventory levels, and procurement KPIs. Use data-driven insights to inform decision-making and drive process improvements.
     

Training & Experience

Knowledge: 

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management, preferably in the mining or heavy industries

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of successful contract negotiations and supplier management. 
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities, with experience leading and developing high-performing teams. 
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement best practices, inventory management principles, and supply chain operations. 
  • Proficiency in procurement software and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite. · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and draw actionable insights. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to work in challenging environment. 
  • Friendly, courteous and professional manner when dealing with people both over the telephone and in person. 
  • Fluency in English; proficiency in Dutch and/or Sranan Tongo is a plus.
     

Working Conditions

  • Able to work at the Merian Site, a remote area 
  • Able to live for 14 days in a Camp environment
