Responsible for contributing to the development of Health and Safety strategies and mentoring in their implementation across the Region. The role is required to provide leadership in the development of systems and processes aligned with Corporate expectations and Regional conditions.

The role will provide leadership to the business in Health and Safety and work with all of the sites in the identification of opportunities for improving safety and health performance and taking a leadership role to identify and successfully implement solutions.

This position will involve actively working with and mentoring operational teams in implementation of systems.

In this Role you will
  • Facilitate and assist in the alignment of Health and Safety objectives between the region and sites, and to contribute to the site management teams to stay aligned with goals and outcomes.
  • Ensure information is shared in a timely and effective manner with sites.
  • Analyze data and report it across the Region, as well as to work with sites in the use of data to make effective decisions.
  • Works with region and site subject matter experts to facilitate the sustainability data collection process; provides data collection tools and quality checks throughout the process.
  • Show leadership in the implementation of the Global Integrated Management System across the Region.
  • Work closely with specialists in the integration of health and safety into systems and programs to improve performance, including Risk Management, Health and Hygiene and S&ER.
  • Work with other teams in the implementation of programs which cross over in terms of accountably.
  • Show leadership in the development of an emergency response system and approaches across the Region to ensure capability is maintained.
  • Develop a program of governance and verification processes to support the sites and ensure efficiency in the region.
Your Training & Experience Checklist
  • Substantial experience (10+ years) in health and safety.
  • 5 years in a senior health and safety role/leadership role.
  • 5 years in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, or allied area.
  • The incumbent is encouraged to have extensive practical experience in the application of Health and Safety programs and Risk Management systems and processes in an operating environment.
  • Strong influencing skills and a history of optimally leading a change programme, resulting in improved levels of performance.
  • A reputation for integrity.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is highly desirable
Working Conditions

Significant travel to sites will be required. Additionally, mining operations are 24/7 operations and as such it is expected that the incumbent will work a flexible roster to fit in with site operations and to maximise the value of travel to and from sites. This may require the incumbent, on occasions, to work flexible combinations of 9+5 and 5+2 rosters wherein work on site is conducted over weekends in order to maximise site time with FIFO teams who work similar rosters.
