This role has  significant interactions with senior regional and corporate leadership members. Works and leads with minimum supervision and is largely self-directed. This role will proactively influence and collaborate with the regional team and the SA sites to ensure that high quality plans and analysis of and   against those plans is delivered, while leading the development and improvement of key planning and analysis tools. Key groups and individuals this role engages with include the RLT, the site general managers, site business managers, site planning teams, joint venture partners and Corporate planning


To lead the South American Business Planning process and contributes to the effectiveness of the Region through complex analysis of consolidated results, assessment of key risks and opportunities, strategic impacts and effective communication of complex financial information into readily-understandable and actionable strategic information for the Regional leadership team. The outcome of the business plans is the foundation of the external messaging of Newmont’s long-term value proposition.

Essential Duties

Business Planning

  • Budget Planning Life Cycle. Leads and directs the budgeting and planning process and engages at different levels of the regional and site level organization to provide guidance, direction and support during the Mine and Process plan development process, related financial statements and financial key metrics. Responsible for the regional budget and ensures accurate allocations and capture of the global functions / corporate allocations by the sites. Supports the review of the site support budgets. Plans all of the deliverables, recurring touchpoints to meet all of the deliverables.
  • Technical Accounting Subject Matter Expert. Serves as an advisor to the sites business planning teams and the region on complex technical accounting calculations, changes to the existing policies and impacts for the business plans. Further, the role works with regional accounting resources to financial assumptions in the budget and forecasts. Manages the reclamation budgeting process with closure and accounting.
  • Financial Consolidation and Analysis. Supports the regional financial integration process, performs complex analytical work to ensure the financial results for the Region are reasonable and accurate and aligned with the regional strategy. Further, it drives the accurate and timely submission of the Region’s plans in BPC and key messaging.
  • Business Plan QA/QC. Ensure adequate internal controls are in place throughout the planning life cycle (e.g. SOX requirements), including documentation of process, evidence  of reviews and ability to re-perform the review process.
  • Business Planning Improvement Initiatives. Assesses and coordinates improvements to existing reporting capabilities.
  • Forecasting Process. Leads the delivery of fully translated and integrated quarterly/monthly forecasting process.

Training & Experience

  • University degree in Accounting/Finance and CPA/CFA designation is an asset
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the areas of Finance, operations and planning ideally in the mining sector or a related industry
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leadership role influencing the strategic direction of the company
  • Exceptional analytical skills at both strategic and financial levels
  • Successful track record partnering effectively with various internal stakeholders
  • Sense of urgency, self-motivated, result oriented and an innovative thinker with high energy to deliver results
  • Exceptional interpersonal, critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated initiative to do more than is expected or required in the position with the desire to improve business processes
  • Knowledge of SAP’s BPC planning application required
  • Able to work effectively in a cross-organizational and cross-cultural environment.
  • Spanish, Dutch and Sranan Tongo skills are desired but not required

Working Conditions

  • The position is located in the regional office in Miami, Florida. The role may require some international and domestic travel to the Peru, Suriname, Argentina, Denver and other South American locations
  • The role may require significant work outside of normal office hours to meet the tight planning and monthly reporting timelines
