About this role

What will you be responsible for?
Responsible for the development, implementation and execution of Newmont’s regional sourcing & portfolio management strategies, policies and guidelines to establish consistent and effective shared goals and objectives across the Americas’ sites and to improve cost savings on a TCO basis. Communicates SC’s strategic sourcing vision and builds strong working relationships with internal client executives on 360 degree basis. Improves Newmont’s overall strategic sourcing capability through continuous improvement and development of the organization. Owns the Americas Regional Category Management team in identifying and capturing new enterprise spend areas to add value and drive cost savings. Liaises and builds relationships with peers across regions to drive critical knowledge exchange and standard methodologies.

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • Responsible for the development, implementation and execution of Newmont’s regional strategic sourcing and savings strategies, policies and guidelines to establish consistent shared goals and objectives across the Americas Supply Chain in regard to goods and services categories and contracts.
  • Workload is primarily focused on development and execution of Newmont’s strategic sourcing and savings strategies for its high risk/high spend regional commodities and services, including optimization of the outsourced procurement model.
  • Work with key client executives, ensure effective visibility of and on board to the SC vision. Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal clients. Ensure internal client satisfaction.
  • Work with Site, Regional and Corporate teams to develop and align on the overarching regional sourcing & portfolio management plans including sourcing project execution timelines, resource forecasting and planning, savings targets and adherence to these.
  • Accountable for awareness and adherence to First Nations Agreements and existing local community relationships in region as they relate to sourcing and procurement activities.
  • Accountable for awareness and adherence to Union Agreements in region as they relate to sourcing and procurement activities.
  • Responsible for driving sourcing & portfolio methodology change management within the organization.
  • Develop, recommend and implement programs to enhance working relationships and communication processes to ensure achievement of leading practice procurement objectives. Ensure teams share leading practices and lessons learned, use consistent methodologies, and pursue deliverables that are aligned with corporate strategic objectives.
  • In conjunction with the Site Supply Chain Managers, and with the support of Technical Services, rationalize the selection of suppliers to optimize Newmont’s supply base; ensure strong working relationships with these suppliers are developed and maintained, and provide direction to supervise and continually improve suppliers’ performance. Review key agreements and contracts to protect and advance Newmont’s interests.
  • Lead and mobilize the team in identifying and capturing new regional spend areas where Supply Chain can add value and drive cost savings; aggressively supervise and improve non-compliance with preferred suppliers.
  • Responsible for the implementation and continuous monitoring of the service requirement plans in coordination with the operational areas.
  • Develop and execute a Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) program for Americas to drive performance and continuous improvement from key vendors.
  • Develop the skills and abilities of direct and indirect reports through ongoing performance measurement and feedback. Provide career guidance and act as a champion and mentor for all resources in the supply chain organization.
  • Responsible for maintaining awareness of market conditions, lead times, trends, risks, and evolving technologies to ensure that Newmont is kept abreast of and has the early opportunity to adopt new products and features. Key focus areas are safety, automation and emerging technologies.

Here is what we would need to see from you!


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Accounting or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Twelve (12) + years of directly related strategic sourcing & portfolio management experience or equivalent combination of training and experience are vital.


  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of management experience – leading teams and having direct reports
  • Mining experience preferred

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
  • Strong PC skills using MS office software.
  • Knowledge of SAP or equivalent enterprise level software packages is vital.
  • Excellent negotiating and influencing skills at all levels within organization and externally.
Working conditions and location

Where you will be located!

  • Collaboration and interaction is expected with the Global Category Management team and across the other regional supply chain organizations as well as across other service and operational areas of Newmont.
  • The position is located in the Denver Corporate office.
  • Position will be required to travel regularly to domestic and international sites.
