About This role

What will you be responsible for?

Reporting to the Director Global Category Management (HME & Tires), the Category Manager is responsible for supporting the improvement and execution of sourcing strategies for Heavy Mobile Equipment, Off Road Tires and associated operating technologies. This position works directly with the Director Global Category Management, and will interact closely with Suppliers and internal stakeholder groups. The roles key focus includes providing support for category strategy execution supplier relationship management.

Business Segments addressed through Category Management include:

  • HME: Supplier and dealers relations and support for Operations, Projects and Technical Services (AM, OT/BI) initiatives;
  • Off the Road Tires
  • NEM’s other Global Categories as needed.
Your role will consist of

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • Contributes to the execution of strategies for HME and Off the Road Tires categories and associated strategic supplier relationships:
  • Ensures contract obligations (forecasts, purchase decisions, equipment purchase evaluations) are executed so critical operational supplies are assured, and commercial incentive programs optimized. This includes collaborating with regional Supply Chain and Operations staff to ensure contract obligations are fulfilled.
  • Identification and support for tracking of cost savings and TCO improvement opportunities.
  • Lead and support the development and implementation of category strategies for Newmont operations and projects.
  • Provide commercial support for contracts relating to HME, Tires and associated technologies (e.g. automation, DSS, I-track).
  • Work closely with OT/BI to provide effective commercial support for strategies relating to HME technologies.
  • Support project team requirements relating to HME and Tires, through RFP development, evaluation, and negotiation.
  • Collaborate with operations and suppliers to address operational issues relating to safety, technical support, security of supply, etc.
  • Demonstrate a level of technical knowledge relating to the operations and maintenance of items covered by the HME and tires category.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to establish and execute an effective supplier relationship management program.
  • Develop and apply TCO and tender evaluation models for assigned categories.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships
  • Engage with internal and external partners on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develops, reviews, and analyzes internal reports and investment documentation
  • Develop contracts with suppliers and coordinate associated legal reviews
  • Maintains awareness of market trends, conditions and changing technologies
  • Manage categories in compliance with Newmont policies and procedures.

Your Training, Skills and Experience Checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, Accounting or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Ten (10) years of directly related strategic sourcing & portfolio management experience or equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary.
  • Mining experience strongly preferred
  • Validated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel applications
  • Knowledge of SAP, Ariba or equivalent enterprise level software packages is vital.
  • Excellent negotiating and influencing skills at all levels within organization and externally.

  • Travel to domestic and international locations and sites required
