The Senior Manager of Supplier Risk Management position is responsible and accountable for Newmont Goldcorp Supplier Risk Management process and Governance.  This includes developing a global center-led governance and compliance framework to align the existing process globally, making adjustments to the existing process to ensure it remains fit-for-purpose and efficient for all Newmont Goldcorp Regions / Sites, and implementation of the process where needed.  


The Supplier Risk management process must be implemented across all legacy Goldcorp sites over the next 2 years.  This implementation will be run as a Global project and will involve extensive engagement and syndication with all levels of leadership across all legacy Goldcorp Sites / Regions.  The existing Supplier Risk management process must also be adjusted as appropriate to align with the Newmont Goldcorp operating model and future technology roadmap requirements.  The project must incorporate multiple complex aspects including Change Management, Technology, and Process Design, in addition to Project Leadership.


Post implementation of this project, the Supplier Risk Management process will move into Sustaining Governance.   In Sustaining Governance, this position will be focused on ensuring all functional areas of Newmont Goldcorp are operating to the Supplier Risk Management framework, will govern the framework and all respective processes, and will raise non-compliant activities to the functional executives and/or ELT if required. 


This position will be the accountable leader at Newmont Goldcorp to reduce risk exposure and financial leakage when doing business with suppliers.  Over the next 2 years (during the project phase mentioned above), this position will manage a team of Newmont consultants and cross functional seconded Newmont employees and Goldcorp stakeholders.  In sustaining Governance, this position will supervise 1-2 full time analysts located in Denver and will be the accountable Global owner of Newmont Goldcorp’s Supplier Risk Management framework. 

Essential Duties
  • Lead a fast pace and high performing Global cross-functional project team challenged with adjusting and implement the Supplier Risk Management Process across all legacy Goldcorp sites. 
  • Adjust the existing Supplier Risk Management process framework to be fit for purpose for the Newmont Goldcorp organization.  This includes designing in the sustaining future state of all SRiM processes, tools and technology in synch with the Requisition-to-Pay Optimization system that will be deployed in 2020 / 2021.
  • Accountable as the overall Owner and Governance lead for Newmont’s Supplier Risk management Framework ensuring compliance to all respective supplier risk management processes (spanning all functional areas of Newmont).
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to all functions (across all sites) when making decisions regarding processes and documents interacting with the supplier lifecycle process (related to Supplier Risk Management).
  • Drive compliance in the proactive registration of suppliers to prequalification and prepare and issue reports outlining non-compliance for the functions and operations.  Escalate noncompliance to functional leads / Operations / ELT as required
  • When functional areas are out of compliance with defined Supplier Risk management processes, develop compliance remediation plans and enact strategies to drive behaviors through targeted communications, managed escalation, and training.
  • Manage third party data inputs/ relationships, to ensure high quality data is used to support assessing risks and to ensure emerging risks are incorporated in the Supplier Risk Management global framework
  • Develop, design and distribute training materials and aides; and conduct training across all of Newmont’s international sites

Training & Experience


  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (business, finance, accounting, supply chain, engineering, or similar)
  • Post graduate qualifications highly preferred.


  • Expected 10-15 years of Supply Chain or risk management experience, with a proven record leading a strategic team, projects or a governance team
  • Experience in the mining industry highly regarded.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage a strategic team and be an effective delegator
  • Excellent time management skills, with an ability to work to tight deadlines dealing with a complex set of stakeholders across multiple regions
  • Proven statistical and data analysis, including technology, reporting, and dashboard development processes, as this role will interact heavily with Newmont Goldcorp Information Technology and the Data warehouse teams
  • Effective and methodical communicator to all levels of the business (operations, various functions and senior leadership)
  • Proven record as an effective change leader, with an ability to determine the appropriate change approach to meet desired outcomes
  • Robust knowledge of supplier management and the application of governance frameworks to a complex portfolio of suppliers
  • Strong PC skills using MS office software.
Working Conditions
  • The position is based in the Denver corporate office
  • Position will require travel extensively to other domestic and international sites.
