About this role

What will you be responsible for?
This role leads the evaluation and generation of fully coordinated strategic plans and options analysis for Strategic Resource Development (SRD) engagements and supervises evaluation modeling as part of the long-term production planning process, facilitating the analysis and decision making. This work is carried out supervising and in collaboration with Mine Engineering, Technical Planning, Business Planning, Geology, Process and Support functions. Interfaces at all levels, including regular collaboration with the site and regional leadership teams and corporate leaders. In addition, the Senior Manager of Evaluations leads the evaluation modeling process for SRD and long-term planning teams, as needed.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
Evaluation Modeling and Analysis:

  • We facilitate and own the evaluation of strategic options for SRD engagements.
  • We supervise and facilitate the continuous improvement, alignment and integration of the evaluation of SRD alternatives into the business to deliver on Newmont’s vision and mission.
  • We coordinate the development of the timeline for evaluation modeling of SRD alternatives as well as long-term production planning to ensure alignment with site and regional calendars.
  • We participate and lead discussions regarding the evaluation of SRD engagements, including workshops and reviews, making sound decisions on direction/options for the SRD team,
  • Based on assessment of project assets in various market conditions, we generate scenarios or asset combinations which provide alternative development paths to the site/region based on portfolio needs and corporate guidance.
  • We provide management with the appropriate information for various “what if” scenarios.

Strategic Resource Development Scenario Analysis:

  • We co-lead with the broader SRD team, the identification of site plans that provide the best advantage to the chosen scenarios by using the internally developed Portfolio Management tools.
  • We lead and facilitate the compilation, synthesis and communication of strategic/business scenarios within the site and other regional partners.
  • We stakeholder with various groups to address any issues on inputs and outputs.
  • We ensure the timely resolution of issues and escalate issues and risks to the supervisor.

Evaluation Process:

  • We lead the efficiency of evaluation modeling in the strategic resource development team. 
  • We provide required assistance to the SRD project manager in leading the evaluation process.
  • We conduct high level assessment of variances, understand causes and facilitate high level decision making on corrective actions.
  • We coordinate and alignment of corporate guidance with SRD engagements, including providing updates back to SRD steering committee on progress to date.
  • We lead standards – assist in global standards for evaluation modeling and ensure standards are adhered to and processes are performed optimally.
  • We ensure the evaluation model for SRD engagements, and options analyzed are in compliance with strategic objectives of the Company.

Evaluation Modeling and Tools/Technology Enablement:

  • We coordinate the development and deployment of Strategic Resource Development tools for evaluation modeling to improve on planning analysis and reports.
  • We set targets and provide criticism for the SRD analytical tools. Requires knowledge of financial accounting, tax and project valuation modeling.
  • We communicate analytical results and methods to personnel at all levels of the organization both verbally and in written formats.
  • We promote the development and integration on Newmont standard tools used for evaluation and investment management purposes in the site/region.

Partner Management:

  • We manage key partners through the evaluation process, aligning it to the long-term production planning and investment management processes such as the site management, regional management and corporate.
  • We build trust and credibility within SRD and REMP/Planning teams that fosters open communication, teamwork and generates results for the business.

Here is what we would need to see from you!
Knowledge: 

  • Extensive knowledge of production and financial analysis, budgeting, planning, accounting, tax and finance. 
  • Strong analytical and financial skills with the ability to develop, analyze timely complex financial models for various projects where, at times, limited details are available.
  • Strong theoretical knowledge of financial models designs with preferable experience in designing solutions in evaluation models and related software.

Experience: 

  • MBA or Masters, B.S degree in Business with an emphasis on Engineering, Geology, Accounting, and Finance.
  • 10-15 years progressively responsible experience in mining, processing as well as planning, budgeting and financial management in the mining industry preferable.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Process improvement, continuous improvement and innovation capabilities.
  • Establish and maintain highly effective cross-organizational relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively in an international and cross-cultural environment.
  • Position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, in order to effectively convey process and workflow concepts, automation concepts, and expected results to management. 
     

Working conditions & location

Where you will be located!

  • The position is located in the Denver corporate office.
  • Position may be required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites. 
     

The salary range offered for this role is $. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
