Technical Services provides global support to Newmont and its operating businesses across a range of specialized technical functions. Technical Services expertise covers all key resource industry disciplines, including resource modelling, reserves & resources, mine engineering, geotechnical, tailings & water, mineral processing & metallurgy, asset management, operational technology and business improvement, Information Technology, supply chain and Operational Support.  
Within Technical Services, the Mining Operational Support Network’s (OSN) is part of the broader Resource Evaluation & Mine Planning (REMP) team, which has global functional accountability across Resource Modeling, Mine Engineering, Long-term Planning, Geotechnical, Hydro, Tailings and Strategic Resource Development.  Each function is accountable to ensure appropriate governance, Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice / direction, supplemental functional support, and overall functional health driving foundational stability, best-practice performance and enabling step-change improvements across the value chain.
The Mining OSN is responsible to provide world-class data driven guidance and technical support to drive better operational performance across safety, productivity, efficiency, quality and compliance to plan. This relies on strategy, planning, process and system standardization, proactive collaboration with sites and central functions, governance, change management, vendor relationships, personnel competency, communication and reporting.
The Mining OSN will have global responsibility to lead to assure, accelerate, amplify and sustain value created in surface and underground mine operations across all Newmont operating sites. This model will drive and sustain improved operational performance across the site mining value chain through close collaboration and partnership with sites and other central functions, leveraging data driven insight.  Insights and learnings from site opportunities will be also be leveraged globally for evaluation and rapid replication as appropriate.
This is a global leadership role that draws on expertise as a strategic thinker, project manager, communicator, influencer, people manager, technical subject matter expert, problem solver, and facilitator.  
The role will report directly to the Vice President Resource Evaluation & Mine Planning and is required to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders within Newmont – most frequently at Manager/General Manager and Vice Presidents of Productivity level, but also up to Regional Senior Vice President, EVP / Chief Operating Officer and EVP / Chief Technology Officer.

Essential Duties

  • Safety and Health - Demonstrate proactive leadership in achieving a global Newmont culture of safety and health including maintaining a high focus on safety within the Mining function and actively promoting Newmont’s safety standards during all site visits. 
  • Build Management – Lead the strategy, establishment and ongoing development of the Mining OSN for surface and underground operations in line with business requirements and site needs. This includes initial and ongoing capability for professional staffing and talent management, data monitoring dashboards and reports, work-flow management, integrated onboard and office based technology systems, wireless communication technologies, integrating relevant aspects of mine design and engineering and ensuring governance mechanisms are in place to sustain and improve all aspects. 
  • Define and prioritize Mining OSN focus areas, and support team engagement with sites - Provide leadership and engagement expertise to identify, support and sustain tangible levels of mining performance improvements co-created with sites and corporate functional teams. Lead and manage the Mining OSN team, including workflow management and rapid replication with sites, to lift the mining performance of all sites in a systematic, sustainable and value focused way. Maintain a detailed and evolving suite of surface and underground mining metrics and scorecards to measure and provide actionable insights which enable systematic improvements in mining activities and behaviors to improve performance. Ensure opportunity and value tracking methodologies are agreed and executed with sites in an accurate and succinct manner.
  • Lead global mine control execution - deliver global strategy and governance for mine operations related to mine control and equipment positioning in conjunction with relevant Principal Advisors and related central functions. Manage interactions and provide expertise on ongoing definition and adherence to the Mine Control Operating and Systems standards. Improve compliance to plan and allow site-based personnel to focus on core execution activities, including operational decision support. Work with Supply Chain to design and manage relevant mine operations vendor agreements, including those for Mine Control. 

Training & Experience


  • Degree qualification in Engineering or related discipline 
  • Post Graduate qualification in maintenance, reliability, mining or business administration desirable
  • SAP system knowledge desirable 


  • 15+ years of experience with mining operations, and excellent understanding of the full value chain (e.g. mine engineering, surface and underground operations, safety, maintenance, technology etc.) 
  • 5+ years leadership experience in managing a mining team 
  • Experienced in developing and implementing strategy for a technical function, conducting business budgeting and planning, global vendor management
  • Practical experience with mine control systems, pit setup and logistics and design aspects linked to mine performance
  • Experience working at or with Newmont desirable

  • Demonstrated stakeholder management ability, including operational sites to executive leaders
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to drive company-wide performance improvement initiatives in a complex and global organisation
  • An ability to manage opposing views and conflict to achieve necessary results which benefit the business
  • Well-rounded and extensive experience in Surface and Underground mining operations enabling a strong understanding in operational efficiency from hourly through to long term trends and recognized as a subject matter expert
  • An ability to communicate complex technical messages to multiple levels of the organization  (up through General Manager and above) in a way that is informative and persuasive, through formal (presentations and written communication) and informal (verbal) means
  • An ability to diagnose and foresee problems and opportunities based on limited information and time, with a track record of sound professional judgement.The capacity to develop and maintain effective relationships at various levels within the business and with external stakeholders.
  • Change management and analytical skills
  • Leading teams and managing people/tasks virtually

Working Conditions

  • The position is nominally located in Denver, but open toPerth 
  • Position will be required to travel domestically and internally  
  • Schedule will require flexibly to meet the frequent out of normal office hours requirements of running a global team and project

The salary range offered for this role is $175,760 - $230,685. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
