About this role

What will you be responsible for?
Reporting to the Senior Director – Project Engineering, the Manager for Mechanical/Piping Engineering is responsible for ensuring that Major and Mega Projects within Newmont advance in accordance with standard methodology, appropriate technical rigour and sound application of innovation with respect to mechanical and piping engineering to improve partner value.
Improves project value across the portfolio by ensuring that mechanical and piping engineering designs are developed considering safety through design, energy and water efficiency and standardization.
Works with project teams and internal partners to communicate and implement lessons learned and standardization opportunities across projects.
Supports project teams with mechanical/piping designs, checks and reviews.
Acts as liaison with internal partners such as: VA team, SME team, Asset Management team, Full Potential team, Joint venture technical teams, project control/reporting team and Investment Committee members.
 

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • We support projects in all stages of execution as well as M&A activities, operations, regional project teams and closure. May take direct role in studies and projects as business needs arise. 
  • We develop standards, processes, systems and procedures to meet Newmont global project requirements. Audits and confirms Projects are adhering to Newmont’s Project Engineering Guidance, or variance requests have been approved.
  • We manage, support and confirm completion of Newmont Stage Gate requirements for Stage work, Gate peer reviews, application of opportunity and risk assessment practices, and use of Value Improving practices. Support ongoing development and improvement of the Stage Gate Process. 
  • We provide subject matter expertise (SME) in mechanical and piping engineering in support of capital projects across all stages, as well as operations and closure. 
  • We lead, manage and/or support technical and peer reviews (including risk and hazard reviews) for mechanical/piping engineering, and confirm reviews are applied consistently across Newmont projects. 
  • We foster open collaboration between project teams and partners, corporate SMEs, External SMEs, EPCM teams and operations to deliver value across the project lifecycle.

Your training, skills & experience checklist

Here is what we would need to see from you!
Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related technical field as a minimum requirement, such as Mechanical Engineering or Process Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Colorado or licensed in good standing in another jurisdiction.
  • Post-Graduate degree in engineering or business would be an asset.

Experience:

  • 15+ years’ related experience in mechanical/piping engineering.
  • Engineering design for medium to large projects working for engineering services company experience is helpful. 
  • Mining, construction, utilities or other heavy industry experience is preferred. 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and demonstrated leadership skills in the management of technical people and sophisticated projects.
  • Familiarity with process engineering workflows including design criteria, process flow diagrams, P&ID drawings, capital and operating cost estimates.
  • Strong problem-solving and statistical analysis capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical results in a logical, presentable manner.
  • Consistent track record to effectively manage a sophisticated project with diverse partners.
  • Shown capacity to produce results through influence and persuasion.
  • Strong digital literacy in basic programs (i.e. Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word) required.

Working conditions & location

Where you will be located!

  • The preferred location is the Denver Corporate office, however qualified candidates interested in relocation to Denver, or candidates in proximity to our Vancouver regional office are also encouraged to apply.
  • Position required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites (up to 25%)

The salary range offered for this role is $127,360.00 to 167,160.00. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
