About this role
What will you be responsible for?
Reporting to the Senior Director – Project Engineering, the Director for Project Engineering is responsible for ensuring that Major and Mega Projects within Newmont advance in accordance with best practice, appropriate technical rigor, and sound application of innovation to maximize stakeholder value.
Maximizes project value across the portfolio by ensuring that engineering designs are developed considering safety through design, energy and water efficiency and standardization.
Works with global project teams, internal and external stakeholders to communicate and implement lessons learned and standardization opportunities across projects.
Supports global project teams with technical designs, audits, and reviews.
Acts as liaison with internal stakeholders such as: VA team, SME team, Asset Management team, Full Potential team, Joint venture technical teams, Supply Chain Management team, project control/reporting team and Investment Committee members.
Participates in developing EPC/EPCM strategies, conditions and performance metrics, and coordinates scope development for Global Projects.
Provides functional management and oversight of Global Project Engineering Managers.
Provides project and engineering management services (as single point accountability) for global major and/or mega projects as the need arises based on lack of suitably qualified owner’s personnel.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:
• Supports global projects in all stages of execution as well as M&A activities, operations, regional project teams and closure teams. May take direct role in leading global studies and/or projects as business needs arise.
• Develops standards, processes, systems, and procedures to meet Newmont global project requirements, in concert with industry best practice. Audits and confirms Global Projects are adhering to Newmont’s Project Engineering Guidance, or variance requests have been approved.
• Leads, supports, and confirms completion of Newmont Stage Gate requirements for Stage deliverables, Gate peer reviews, application of opportunity and risk assessment practices, and use of Value Improving practices. Supports ongoing development and improvement of the Stage Gate Process.
• Provides subject-matter expertise (SME) in mechanical/piping engineering in support of capital projects across all stages, as well as operations and closure.
• Leads, handles and/or supports technical and peer reviews (including risk and hazard reviews) for mechanical/piping engineering, and confirms reviews are applied consistently across Newmont projects.
• Fosters open collaboration between project teams and stakeholders, corporate SMEs, External SMEs, EPCM teams and operations to deliver value across the project lifecycle.

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in related technical field as a minimum requirement, such as Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or I&C Engineering.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer with Colorado State Board of Licensure or similar licensing body.
• Post-Graduate degree in engineering, business or project management would be an asset.
Experience:
• 15+ years’ related experience in mining infrastructure related engineering.
• Engineering design for medium to large projects working for engineering services company type experience is required.
• Broad based experience in project design, execution planning and project execution.
• Experience and a high level of understanding of Engineering & Construction industry practices in engineering design and project execution.
• International experience, working with different cultures in different geographic locations is required.
• Mining, construction, utilities, or other heavy industry experience is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
• Validated strong verbal and written communication skills. Fluency in English is essential, fluency in Spanish and/or French would be beneficial.
• Strong interpersonal and proven leadership skills in the management of technical people and advanced projects.
• Familiarity with process engineering workflows including design criteria, process flow diagrams, P&ID drawings, capital, and operating cost estimates.
• Strong problem-solving and statistical analysis capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to efficiently communicate technical results in a logical, presentable manner.
• Shown ability to efficiently lead a complex project with diverse stakeholders in a global environment.
• Shown capacity to produce results through influence and persuasion.
• Strong computer skills in basic programs (i.e., Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word) is required.

• The position is located in the Denver, CO office; candidates authorized to work in the United States or Canada are encouraged to apply.
• Position will be required to travel to other domestic and international sites to support global project development and execution.

The salary range offered for this role is $122,000 - 175,000.00. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont. This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
