Purpose

Within Technical Services, the Asset Management (AM) function is responsible for creating and implementing effective global asset strategies, delivering efficient asset planning and strategic insights to drive exceptional global asset performance across Newmont’s portfolio.  It aims to ensure that Newmont’s asset management processes and capabilities are a source of sustainable and considerable competitive advantage for Newmont. This is achieved by focusing on business process standardization, proactive collaboration, competency and capability development, maintenance and reliability practices, relevant global productivity metrics and targeted value-adding asset lifecycle cost improvements. The AM function is focused on delivering value aligned with our philosophy of continuous improvement and rapid replication.
This senior director role draws on expertise as a senior level team leader, strategic thinker, project manager, communicator, technical subject matter expert, problem solver. Key outcomes include:

  • Fundamentally changing Newmont’s approach to global asset management by implementing an optimized global operating model that centralizes reliability engineering, equipment maintenance strategy development and implementation, transactional planning and scheduling, shutdown optimization, and maintenance budgeting. 
  • Establishing a globally focused AM Operations Support Network (OSN), that monitors performance, coaches central and site teams and intervenes when required to deliver expected results 
  • Creating and implementing AM strategies, best practices and technical vision across the Newmont portfolio
  • Strategically identifying sustainable opportunities for Newmont through systems optimization and new technologies that further the organizations strategic plan

The role is required to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders within Newmont – most frequently at Manager/General Manager level and Vice Presidents of Productivity level - but up to Regional Senior Vice President, EVP/Chief Technology Officer and EVP / Chief Operating Officer.
 

Essential Duties

Safety and Health - Demonstrate proactive leadership in achieving a global Newmont culture of safety and health including maintaining a high focus on safety within the Asset Management function and actively promoting Newmont’s safety standards and improvement initiatives.
Operations Support Network – Lead the strategic development, establishment, and sustainment of the Asset Management Operations Support Network (AM OSN) for fixed assets to deliver monitoring, coaching and intervention that facilitates the safe and efficient execution of the business plan. This includes data capture and analysis, work-flow management and communication systems. Ensure a detailed and evolving suite of fixed assets AM metrics and scorecards are maintained to provide actionable insights to enable systematic and behavioral improvements to drive enhanced performance. Ensure opportunity and value tracking methodologies are coordinated with sites and are executed consistent with continuous improvement programs. Engage with VPP’s and lead identification of improvement opportunities related to global productivity tables. 
Lead global fixed AM planning & coordination of work – Deliver a high performing, globally dispersed, centrally managed fixed asset planning and scheduling organization that is responsible for all fixed asset maintenance planning and shutdown planning activities across the portfolio. Lead development of scope, schedule and budget for each shutdown and present to site General Manager and leadership team for final input and approval. Ensure robust communication and support process are in place to facilitate safe and productive asset shutdowns are executed according to schedule. Implement global business processes and governance for fixed assets, including defined workflows, work management processes, key accountabilities, communication plans, and associated metrics. Ensure compliance to plan and allow site-based personnel to focus on core execution activities. Collaborate with General Managers during issue resolution for escalated AM issues and strive to shape the AM central organization to consistently meet site needs. 
Strategy & business plan development – Identify, develop, optimize and implement standardized global fixed asset equipment maintenance strategies. Implement global business processes and governance for strategy development, including repair strategies, labor costs and requirements, materials requirements, work instructions, implementation plans, and associated metrics. Develop zero-based fixed assets maintenance budgets as part of annual business plans for review and adoption by site team. Engage with GM’s and VPP’s to during business plan approval process to ensure budgets are endorsed. Oversee integration between Supply Chain and Strategic Planning in the design and management of relevant fixed asset management vendor agreements.  
Talent Management - Define and execute, in coordination with HR and the Asset Management Group Executive, the initial and ongoing fixed assets AM global talent management strategy and pipeline. Facilitate a high performing virtual work environment across multiple globally dispersed locations.

Training & Experience

Knowledge: 

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Business, or related discipline, or commensurate industry experience in senior leadership positions
  • ERP system experience desirable

Experience: 

  • Significant demonstrated experience in heavy industry, including leadership roles in both asset management and operations, excellent understanding of the full value chain and proven success in leading a high performing, global, diverse team.  
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategies for a technical function, as well as conducting business planning and budgeting, capital evaluations, and global vendor management
  • Significant demonstrated experience in implementing Asset Management principles and best practices across globally diverse, multi-site portfolio
  • Significant demonstrated experience developing and delivering business strategies that improve Asset Management performance, reliability and safety, reducing operating costs and maximizing return on assets 
  • Significant demonstrated experience with change, communication and knowledge management methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience with leading a high performing, multi-disciplined, diverse global team 

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Demonstrated outstanding stakeholder management ability ranging from engaging operational sites to executive leaders
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to drive company-wide performance improvement initiatives in a complex and global organization
  • A depth and breadth of asset management experience to be recognized and trusted as a business partner by site operations and global senior leaders 
  • An ability to communicate complex technical messages to senior business roles (General Manager and above) through interactive discussions and written communication
  • An ability to quickly assess high level information to foresee and diagnose problems and opportunities, with a track record of strong professional judgement and critical thinking 
  • An ability to develop and maintain effective relationships at various levels within the business and with external stakeholders.
  • An ability to lead global teams and managing people/tasks both in-person and virtually
  • The ability to work flexibly to meet the frequent out of normal office hours requirements of leading a global team and project
     

Working Conditions

  • Position may be required to travel domestically and internationally 
  • Flexible hours required to accommodate global meeting times 

The salary range offered for this role is $175,760 - $230,685. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance. This role also will be eligible for participation in a discretionary long-term incentive program, pursuant to which an employee may receive awards based on their level and individual performance.
