Metallurgical Technician Sr - US

Your Role

To perform metallurgical tasks/tests in support of ore processing operations at CC&V..

What you will do

  • Report to work fit-for-duty, report all near misses and safety incidents immediately to supervisor, and share any hazard conditions with supervisor and/or appropriate customers in a timely manner
  • Perform audit on metallurgical samplers. This will include, but not limited to: sampling, standardization tests, calibrations, and basic maintenance of the metallurgical equipment.
  • Work closely with Metallurgists to perform metallurgical inventory sampling, and the necessary test-work that may apply.
  • Work closely with Metallurgists to support Carbon Management Rapid Replication project: carbon sampling, activity tests, particle size distributions, and moisture etc.
  • Perform weekly laboratory flotations (and as needed) and share report and observations with customers (Metallurgists, Operations etc.)
  • Assist with equipment inspections during downtime.  This will include, but not limited to: grinding mills, flotation cells etc.
  • Interpret metallurgical test data and take the necessary action to ensure that it is accurate. Demonstrate the ability to identify, analyze and solve problems as they arise. Report problems and follow through to ensure that issues are addressed/remedied.
  • Work closely with area customers (Metallurgist, Geologist of Plant, etc) to support tests and accomplish metallurgical and process objectives. Take initiative to produce a useful result such as offering suggestions or data that weren't requested, or trying other alternatives if the initial approach doesn't work.
  • Be able to recognize the need for procedure changes. Suggest improvements to existing tests and develop procedures for new tests.
  • Remain abreast of new developments and techniques in the metallurgical field. Obtain Certifications as needed. Regularly search for ways to improve process, service, and safety and reduce costs.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all Metallurgical Lab Tech III duties.
  • Be able to draw general process flow diagrams of facilities.
  • Demonstrate good housekeeping practices, including the safe handling and storage of chemicals. Wear proper PPE at all times and ensure other lab techs do same. Understand, comply with, and ensure compliance of other met techs with, regulations and policies relative to work area.
  • Mentor and encourage other lab techs. Promote team morale and productivity. Coordinate test work .
  • Recognize the need for equipment calibration and/or attention. Analyze assays to request reruns and sense problems in test results to alert appropriate person if a parameter is outside of normal expectations.
  • Pull together information from different sources and interpret data/information to support metallurgical test work or projects.
  • Originate and follow through on work orders to ensure equipment is operating properly. Price items with vendors and prepare requests for Purchase Order Requisitions or Procard orders for needed supplies.

Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist

  • Minimum of 24 months in Met Tech III (or equivalent) position unless special conditions exist. No written disciplinary actions within six months prior to request for upgrade.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Tech III duties.
  • Basic computer skills for building spreadsheets, data entry and analysis, and creation of memos, reports and test procedures.

Working Conditions and Location

You will be based in Cripple Creek & Victor.

The salary range offered for this overtime-eligible role is $54,400.00- $71,400.00. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.  

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
