About this role

What you will be responsible for?

The Metallurgical Superintendent is responsible and accountable for the supporting site management, Process Operations and Process Maintenance in safe operating practice of all process plant- including Carbon Adsorption, Plant, Valley Leach Pad, and Injection Program. The role will define production targets and address process equipment to achieve budgeted utilization. This role will work very closely with upper management- Mining Chief Engineer, Process Superintendent, Process Maintenance, and other collaborators to safely achieve budgeted production target.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:

  • Ensuring safety of all metallurgical, and development laboratory employees
  • We ensure environmental compliance of Metallurgical and the development laboratory department
  • We supervise all process performance - Key KPI and suggest strategies to improve KPI
  • Business planning: Long-term and short-term strategic planning- Physical and Cost
  • Cost Control- Owner for commodities budgeting and control, cost variance and ounce profile variance
  • We lead all aspects of production and cost variance
  • Capital Budget Planning
  • Hiring, mentoring, coaching and succession planning
  • We provide daily technical support for the Process Ops and Maintenance
  • Reserve (Review and Sign Off)- Surface and Underground
  • Leach Recovery Model
  • Monitoring, analyzing, and explaining production and cost variance
  • Lead all aspects of the Metal Planning Process
  • We connect with Process Manager and Superintendents
  • Review proposed designs and test plans for conformance with contract requirements and analyze test data for accuracy and consistency. May inspect, certify, and evaluate onsite operational systems and design modifications. Responsible for maintaining quality assurance standards
  • We review and edit reports such as evaluation plans and technical program plans. Responsible for assuring that the generation, release, and maintenance of documentation is in accordance with Company and contractual requirements
  • Lead medium engineering area by providing leadership and support to the people in that department which enables them to increase their efficiency in developing and maintaining products for the Company
  • Provide technical expertise and assistance to assigned engineers, analysts, drafters, and technicians.
  • Develop relationships with customer and contractor representatives in order to review, monitor, and evaluate results for conformity to tasks, specifications and schedules
  • We supervise the Metallurgical systems and business processes, identify and priorities improvement opportunities and formulate alternatives and improvements to systems and methods
  • We consistently define and communicate process related technical limits to increase awareness and maintain a focus on resolving and eliminating production bottlenecks

Education and Experience

  • Minimum requirement: B.S. degree in Engineering with a minimum of 12 years' experience in a specialty area, including leading an engineering area or project
  • Good digital literacy. Proficient verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate clearly across all departments. Ability to work directly with others
  • Proven record of high level of data analytical skills
  • Desire to work across departments to get plans completed on time and accurately

  • This position is located at our Cripple Creek & Victor Mine Site near Cripple Creek, CO.
  • The work environment is located above 10,000 ft. which requires working at high altitude. The successful candidate must pass a high-altitude medical assessment prior to being offered employment at Cripple Creek.

The salary range offered for this role is $134,240- 159,410. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.  The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.   

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
