About the Role
The Co-op Mine Engineering Student reports to the Mine Engineering Supervisor.
Purpose
Provide technical support to Porcupine for direction and support to the operations group to help achieve and surpass the mine’s safety and production targets and to add value to the operation.
Assist with various aspects of mine engineering as part of the Technical Services. Provide an opportunity to learn the mining process in an operational environment.

Essential Duties
Promoting Safety and Sustainability
- Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering designs and implementing new designs.
- Develop plans and designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standards.
- Promote and adhere to Company safety policies.
Exposure to Operations
Understand the operation and limitations of (and provide technical support to) through exposure to:
- Drilling operations,
- Loading operations,
- Mucking, haulage and dumping operations,
- Overall supply of materials for the operation
Technical Responsibilities
Provide technical support in the following engineering duties in varying capacities, aligning with the needs of PGM:
- Drill and blast design duties
- Planning duties (short-term or mid-term)
- Backfill duties
- Project management
- Surveying duties
- Peer to peer work reviews
Training & Experience
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or equivalent mining-related engineering degree.
- Be technically competent and have a good understanding of mining.
- Familiarity with Deswik would be considered an asset (not required)
- Registered Ontario common core modules U0, 1, 2 and 12 would be considered an asset (not required)
- Valid "G" driver's license
Working Conditions
This is a site-based role in Chapleau, ON supporting the Borden Mine Operation.
The schedule is 4 days on, 3 days off.
Available placement minimum 8 month up to 16 month.
