Essential Duties

  • Apply engineering rock mechanics principals to the design of ground support system
  • Review and provide input into long term mine designs and reserves
  • Develop and analyze numerical models to provide input into mine design and mine sequences
  • Evaluate the rock mechanics of mining areas through the study of models, designs and processes in order to optimize ore extraction
  • Utilize in-house ground control model to predict ground deformation and plan for future sustainable mine schedules
  • Design drilling and data collection programs for new mining areas
  • Data collection and analysis of drilling data for mine design recommendations
  • Review and implement technological advances to underground rock mechanics in design, monitoring and support
  • Cooperate and work effectively with team members as well as other departments to communicate ground control issues and provide solutions to mitigate risks
  • Clearly communicate both verbally and in writing such that misunderstandings are minimal and documentation is kept of decisions made

Training & Experience

  • BS Degree in Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or Geology and five years of experience in an underground environment
  • Advanced level technical communications, personal interaction and presentation skills required
  • Modeling experience a plus
