To provide senior site technical leadership along with advisory services within the Mining disciplines to support efficient and effective mining and continuous improvement.  This role will also be key in providing oversight, assurance and governance around the technical aspects of the operation.

The Technical Services Manager will report to the Site GM and will be a direct peer to the other managers on the site leadership team.  This role will be responsible for leading the site mining engineering team including mining engineering, geotechnical engineering and other geoscience/hyrdro geosciences as needed.  This role will deliver executable short and medium term mine plans which are signed off by the Site Operations Manager and which align with the regional planning done by Strategic Long Term Planning Team.  This role will also hold a key responsibility for understanding, monitoring, reporting on geotechnical risks in the operation.  This includes ensuring a Ground Control Management Plan is in place, adequately resourced and followed by the technical and operating teams.

The Technical Services Manager will be the key liaison with any corporate and regional technical resources and utilize networks to ensure all requisite standards and processes are in place and being followed at site.  This may include organizing and executing 3rd party audits as needed. 

Essential Duties

Leading Site Technical Team to provide oversight and deliver:


  • Mine Engineering, Planning and Scheduling
  • Geotechnical engineering, designs, data and monitoring
  • Metal Planning, business planning and forecasting
  • Mine geology and ore control
  • Technical assurance and governance over all technical processes in mines
  • Help organize and participate in geotech reviews and ensure action tracking
  • Serve as the link between regional technical services groups.
  • Leadership and succession planning for technical team at site, participate in regional reviews.

Maintain close linkages with corporate TS and OT&I teams and drive a close collaborate culture.

Training & Experience


Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mining Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or related degree.

Broad understanding of all the operational and service functional areas supporting Newmont’s mining business model, with in-depth expertise in many areas.

Business knowledge that can identify issues and problems and take advantage of opportunities

Well versed in theory and practical applications in open cut and underground mining.

Solid understanding of statistics, financial analysis and project valuation.

In-depth knowledge of Mine Monitoring and Control Systems and applying them to improve productivity and efficiency of the operations.  Experience with MineStar is preferred.

In depth knowledge and experience using Mine Planning and optimization Software.  Experience with Vulcan, OPMS, MineMax, MSSO preferred



15+ years’ experience in mining technical roles.  Another 5+ years in operating leadership role preferred.

An expert in the realm of impact and influence. This position will have minimal direct reports and requires the ability to build and leverage relationships to a high degree using emotional intelligence.

A strategic mindset with a strong ability to influence culture change with an ability to link strategic and tactical thinking.
