Newmont operations in South America are trough two different companies, Newmont Peru SRL and Minera Yanacocha SRL.

Newmont Peru SRL was founded in 1983 as an exploration mining company whose main objective is obtain new gold reserves.

Minera Yanacocha SRL start their operations in 1992 in Cajamarca City partnership with Buenaventura, is the largest gold mine in South America.

About this role

The Senior HRBP is responsible for aligning employees and managers’ objectives with the business strategy and provides mentorship on human resources related issues. 
Evaluates and anticipates HR-related needs and communicate it proactively to site Human Resources leadership team. 
Builds partnership across the HR function to deliver valuable service to the organization, aligned with the business strategy.
The Senior HRBP has a deep understanding on the business strategy to influence leaders to align with strategic objectives. Also, will act as a Change Champion to facilitate HR systems’ implementation.

In this role you will

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like: 

Policy Guardian 

  • We develop HR programs to solve HR-related matters (based on analysis of HR metrics) in partnership with the business.
  • We ensure regulatory compliance and education on labor related topics to avoid company legal contingencies.
  • We communicate and ensure comprehension of Newmont’s purpose, values, policies, standards and procedures, and ensure the implementation of disciplinary action based on company policies and standards.

Employee Mediator


  • We handle conflicts between employees/manager/union delegates.
  • We provide guidance to handle employees’ performance and development as well as HR processes and systems.

Strategic Partner


  • We drive the implementation of people strategy on the site to respond business needs.
  • We advise Talent Management to create and implement IDPs for future leaders.
  • We help to identify business talent needs, critical roles and High Potentials to ensure a healthy bench strength as well as talent retention and succession plans.
  • We provide HR mentorship to ensure organizational structure alignment with Newmont Operating Model.
  • We track and support HR initiatives to ensure alignment with Newmont’s strategy.

Emergency Response

  • We represent HR point of view to tackle day to day work issues.
  • We quickly respond to manager and/or employees’ concerns on HR related issues.
  • We align with all the Health & Safety recommendations.
  • We support initiatives aligned with Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.

Your Training, skills, and Experience checklist

  • Deep HR generalist knowledge.
  • Project Management.
  • How to play a role of Change Champion.
  • Newmont Strategy, Purpose and Values (with deep understanding on people strategy).
  • Company agreements – HR related – with local communities (such as: mineral agreement targets, community agreements, etc.).
  • CBAs agreements with unions.
  • Knowledge of labor law and staff regulations.
  • Knowledge on Talent Management systems (such as: success factors, performance management, succession planning, how to map hi-pots, etc.)

Education and Experience: 

  • 7+ years of relevant human resources experience
  • Bachelor’s degree is required (Business, Industrial Engineer, Industrial Relations, Law, other HR related)
  • Advanced degree in Human Resources Management, Organization Development or Business is desired.
  • Advanced English

Working Conditions and Location

Where you will be located!

  • The position is located in Cajamarca-Yanacocha
  • Position may be required to work under flexible work arrangements, which includes some days working from office/site and some days working from home.
  • Position may be required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites.
