Newmont Peru SRL was founded in 1983 as an exploration mining company whose main objective is obtain new gold reserves.

Minera Yanacoca SRL start their operations in 1992 in Cajamarca City partnership with Buenaventura, is the largest gold mine in South America.

Scope of effort for position involves projects greater than $1B capital and up to 3000 people peak work force. Managerial responsibility and accountability of all aspects of successful business set-up, project development and operation of a new business unit.
Responsible for Mine development and Operations on a green field or brown field mega project including leading the Mine Engineering/Ops, Process, Maintenance, Mine Geology, HSLP and Security

Essential Duties

  • Overall accountability for a Project to transition the project from Execution to Operation. 
  • Provide guidance and leadership of Operations planning and development, will be responsible to ensure the project from Operations prespective is scoped, scheduled,  budgeted, staffed and executed as per Newmont policy and procedure. 
  • Overall responsibility of the areas of Mining, Process, Maintenance, Mine Geology and HSLP and the delivery of project business investments within the approved investment criteria. 
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, rules, laws and government regulations within Project and Operations Scope. 
  • Facilitate, direct, schedule, and ensure all Newmont Stage and Gate requirements including Stage deliverables, peer reviews, Gate presentations, opportunity and risk management, and application of Value Imporving Practices are met. 
  • Develop the business (Strategic and Execution) plan including the project organization and structure, contracting strategy and resource plans. 
  • Establish operational capacity, resources expertise, and systems necessary to operate the completed facilities during pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up. 
  • Ensure quality assurance and safety programs are established by all parties and maintained. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting standards are maintained throughout the projects. 
  • Advise executive management of proposed business opportunity and after sanction, advise project status and of significant trends and changes in the NPV / IRR of the investment.
  • Facilitate handover facilities, support services and staff as appropriate and complete project closeout report. 5%
  • Know and comply with the MYSRL Internal Regulation related to Safety and Occupational Health issued pursuant to Law 29783, SD. 024-2016-EM and y DS. 005-2012-TR; as well as the regulations related to Safety, Integral Hygiene and Environment contained in the MYSRL Internal Work Regulations and Code of Ethics and Conduct, the MYSRL Loss Prevention Manual, the Internal Procedure/Rule Manual in the work area and the Loss Prevention activities scheduled for his/her Department.
  • Know and demonstrate commitment and compliance, within the limits of his/her control and when applicable to his/her activities, with the MYSRL Declaration on Environmental Commitments, the MYSRL environmental procedures and the responsibilities assigned and scheduled for his/her department.
  • Demonstrate social sensitivity, commitment and compliance with the Yanacocha Social Responsibility policy; maintain a socially responsible behavior with the Community and the Company.
  • Know and comply with the Internal Work Regulation and Code of Ethics and Conduct of MYSRL; and promote the Inclusion and Diversity culture programs. 

The above responsibilities are the main responsibilities of the position. The position also develops other activities that are not included in this document and the immediate supervisor is responsible for informing such activities.

Training & Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor's of Science in an engineering discipline, with post graduate qualifications in Senior Mine Operations if possible, and/or 15 to 20 years practical managerial experience in engineering, construction and mining operations.
  • Solid experience in similar roles as Operations manager, or Mine manager.
  • Solid foundation and experience in contemporary community relations practices and standards required.
  • Possess personal qualities of professional leadership, superior intellectual capacity, sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills and business acumen.
  • A proven track record in project execution and demonstrated commitment to the successful implementation of the project.

Working Conditions

  • Position is located at project offices (Job Site) at either international or domestic locations.
  • Position will be required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites.
