The Mining Improvement Specialist will support the Operations Superintendents to identify, assess and implement selected improvement projects.


You will provide support to mining operations in understanding the key drivers of operations to identify and assess productivity and asset usage improvements. You will assist in implementing selected opportunities through a continuous improvement program, managing progress of improvement initiatives and collaborating with mine operators and providing regular feedback to the supervision group.


Some of the key responsibilities include


  • Working with technical experts to optimise mine operations to ensure the design objectives are met.
  • Assisting in the development and execution of continuous improvement programs aimed at implementing selected productivity improvements with mine operators.
  • Developing baseline productivity through field assessment of mine operation performance.
  • Identifying opportunities through field assessments and reporting to Operations Superintendents as required.
  • Providing information to Drill & Blast and Production Planning Engineering as required.
  • Providing mentoring and training to drill and blast operations in drill and blast design.
  • On a personal level you will be able to engage and collaborate with multiple departments and disciplines to achieve required outcomes. Your ability to multitask in a dynamic environment, your skills as an effective communicator across a wide range of disciplines and functions are ideal for this role.


Skills, Knowledge & Experience


  • A strong desire to expand and apply your technical knowledge in the continuous improvement of the operation through coordinated trials and project work.
  • Tertiary Qualification – Bachelor of Mine Engineering or equivalent.
  • A minimum of four years mine engineering / technical experience in a similar role and similar operating environment.
  • Previous Drill and Blast Engineering, Business Improvement, Contractor Management, Project Management and Operations field experience is preferred.
  • Advanced PC skills and computer literacy including proficiency in the following areas:
  • Mine design software
  • Data analytics
