About This Role:

  • To operate loader at Newmont to deliver material to the appropriate location (primary and oxide crusher, stockpile or waste dump) destination and conduct cleanup activities in a safe and controlled manner.
     

In This Role You Will:

Loader Pre-Shift and On-Shift Activities

  • Attend all pre-shift instruction meetings.
  • Communicate with and receive instruction from the Mine Operations Shift Supervisor and follow the specified instruction and working plan, prior to the execution of activities.
  • Understand the loading activities that need to be completed and the designated location of loading activities.
  • Conduct work assessments and risk assessments and prior to loading.
  • Perform pre-start checks on the loader and log results onto the JIGSAW system.
  • Assess the working area to be loaded to determine how to approach the activity.
  • Follow laid-down loading procedures and instructions.
  • Operate loader machinery according to standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and standard task procedures (STP’s).
  • Operate both the CAT 992K and 992G and 966 Loader safely and competently.
  • Load trucks to appropriate weights and dimensions following the CAT10/10/20 rule.
  • Load MAN Tipper Trucks.
  • Manage dig face for safe and efficient loading, including managing the dig face to a safe height.
  • Uphold Quality Assurance / Quality Checking standards.
  • Maintain designed floor grade at digging face.
  • Utilize JIGSAW System to report loader equipment status (i.e. Down, Standby, Delay or Ready) and select appropriate delay and stand by codes.
  • Communicate with Dispatcher on the two-way radio of any detected loader machinery defects or issues.
  • Report and escalate all accidents and incidents occurring in the shift
  • Monitor the condition of the Loader’s Ground Engaging Tools and report any deficiencies.
  • Protect truck tires by mindfully caring for pit and dump floor conditions.
  • Perform daily housekeeping and safety checks of the loader equipment.
  • Meet and / or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Assist in developing peers to perform quality loading duties.
  • Perform other related activities, as assigned by the Shift Supervisor.


Loader Post-Shift Handover

  • Conduct post-shift inspections regarding hazards and defects identified and communicate these to Dispatch / Supervisor and the incoming operators for the smooth running of Operations.
  • Communicate and provide work status handovers to incoming Loader Operators.

 

Additional Responsibilities:


Stakeholder Management and Engagement

  • Communicate with Truck Operators to verify the safety of spotting and loading activities.
  • Communicate with Truck Operators and Dispatchers to verify that materials are dumped at the correct locations, based on mark-out information.
  • Ensure own loading shift work meets established statutory standards


Health, Safety and Environment

  • Follow all safety policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Operate loader, in compliance with Newmont and manufacturer specifications.
  • Inspect and operate the loader in a safe manner and take steps to prevent minimal wear and tear and / or damage to equipment.
  • Work without risk or harm to others.
  • Maintain a strong focus of safety throughout all activities.
  • Provide hands-on assistance during loading activities to fellow colleagues to ensure that safe work practices are followed. 
  • Attend daily morning safety meetings. 

Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:

Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

  • Junior High School and higher Certificate.

 

Additional Knowledge:

  • Mineral Commission Operators License.
  • Drivers’ License E.
  • Knowledge and understanding of loader operation.
  • General knowledge of loaders and other heavy equipment.

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 2 – 3 years’ loading operation experience in an open pit mining environment.

Working Conditions:

The Position is located in the Ahafo North mine site.
