Programs

Newmont offers a variety of student programs to enhance your university learning experience with real-world, practical experience.

North America Programs

Internships

In Colorado, interns have the opportunity to work with our corporate team and have access to some of the world’s leading technical experts.

Our interns in Nevada have the unique opportunity to work at one of Newmont’s mine sites or the regional office. The program also provides the opportunity to develop professional relationships that are just as valuable as the practical knowledge gained in the field.

Qualified college sophomores, juniors and seniors apply, interview, and are selected for paid internships offering a robust summer experience including events, mentoring, team building and community service.

Australia Programs

Vacation Work (Internships)

We offer students vacation work as part of our commitment to the development of young mining professionals. Our paid vacation program provides an opportunity to learn about all aspects of Newmont’s operations – from the business side to the mining processes in the field.

We typically look for students in their second or penultimate year, although we may also accept a small intake of first-year students. If you possess a strong academic record, background of personal achievement and a genuine interest in working in the mining industry, we encourage you to apply.

Features of Newmont’s vacation work program include:

  • Maximum 12 weeks’ work experience at one of our Australia Pacific sites (participants typically are assigned to mine site locations near their home state)
  • Site and community relations induction
  • Possibility of project work
  • Hands-on work experience
  • Competitive salary
  • Potential entry point to Newmont’s Emerging Talent (Graduate) Program

Africa Programs

Internships

In Ghana, Newmont provides internship opportunities for promising students from the communities near our operations. We believe internships – often referred to as industrial attachments – are great opportunities for students to acquire practical experience and demonstrate their potential.

Our internships are open to students pursuing education in the Universities/Polytechnics in their second and third years of their program or area of study. Students must apply through their institutions to be considered for placement with Newmont.

Apprenticeships

Our apprenticeship program in Ghana is focused on engaging members of local communities near our mine sites to train youth in mine maintenance, mine process and heavy truck operations.

Apprenticeship participants undergo the following selection process:

  • Each community may submit names based on a previously established and agreed-upon community quota system.
  • Community chiefs, assembly members and youth leaders endorse potential candidates prior to submitting applications.
  • Community leaders direct the initial selection process. Along with the sub-chiefs, they conduct a preliminary examination to select candidates for Newmont’s final examination.

National Service

On an annual basis, we determine the need for National Service personnel. If personnel is required, we work with Ghana’s National Service Secretariat to select qualified candidates.

The Ghana National Service Scheme is a government program and not specific to Newmont.

South America Programs

Trainees/Internships

For our South America trainee and internship programs, we seek candidates who have just started their career and are looking to gain first-time experience.

Internship positions are posted when our areas of operation require support. Positions are posted throughout the year as they become available; please check the site often for updated positions.

Application deadlines will vary based on the position and business need.
