The incumbent is responsible for managing and developing the process department’s process control team, so that a high level of system performance, availability and integrity is maintained.

Essential Duties

  • Ensure that the plant process control system (PCS) operation and availability is maintained 24/7 and that the PCS does not impact negatively on achieving budgeted or forecast production levels.
  • Manage the implementation of changes to the plant PCS as requested through the work order system.
  • Provide appropriate communication and training to support those personnel involved in or affected by the introduction of new processes or changes to the existing process control system.
  • Manage the capture and recording of data from the plant PCS by maintaining data historian availability at greater than 98% availability. Ensure that the data historian is fully utilised by the processing department, through training and regular updates.
  • Manage the plant communication system interfaces to ensure they are maintained, utilised effectively and integrated with the PCS.
  • Ensure the integrity of data collected by the metallurgical accounting system is maintained.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to the Process Management Team, shift teams and metallurgists responsible for grinding, Pressure Oxidation and leach and gold recovery areas.
  • Ensure that process control hardware systems are maintained up to date and that system loadings on field control stations do not compromise PCS system integrity.
  • Develop high level control (expert) systems to build upon the basic PCS functionality

Training & Experience

  • BS degree in Engineering (Metallurgy) or diploma in Control Systems Engineering with 10 to 15 years process control experience, preferably in the Mining industry
  • 5+ years expereince in gold or base metals and milling operations
  • Excellent communication and team based skills
  • High attention to detail in problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Proven project management and supervisory skills
  • Knowledge of current leading industry best practices for control systems
  • Advanced PC skills and computer literacy
  • Understanding of financial and administrative processes
  • Solid knowledge of Bailey and Modicon PLC control systems as well as wireless network
  • Mentoring skills
  • Problem solving ability
