This position will report to Stationary Maintenance Supervisor. 

Purpose

Newmont Porcupine Gold Mines is looking for a skilled Shaftperson to join our team at the Hoyle mine site. 

Essential Duties

Safety Expectations

  • Is responsible for his/her health and safety.
  • Will correct or report unsafe practices or conditions.
  • Maintains a safe and healthful place to work.
  • Make suggestions to improve any aspect of safety.
  • Learns and follows the safety rules and procedures for safe performance of the job.

Essential Duties

  • Maintain/repair shaft components and structures at Hoyle Pond surface and winze shafts in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Move materials in a safe and efficient manner; including some rigging.
  • Must be willing to work shift on an 8-hour shift schedule Monday to Friday or a 10.5-hour shift Monday to Thursday
  • Must be willing to work overtime shifts as required.
  • Must adhere and comply with all company and legislated policies, procedures, and standards.
  • The position requires underground and surface work. (underground common core)
  • Shaft inspection and repair, pulling spill pocket, escapeway inspections, mucking shaft bottom, moving materials, assisting with rope work.
  • Cleaning headframe, conveyor way, stations, hoist rooms & hoisting equipment, shop fabrications, and repairs.
  • Alternative work will be assigned as required.
  • The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Training & Experience

  • Must have a working knowledge of shaft/shop operations.
  • Licensed Millwright certification would be an asset.
  • Underground Common Core
  • Shaft Specialty Module (U0084 Shaft Maintenance)
  • Must demonstrate acceptable skills through written and operating evaluation
  • Previous shaft experience is an asset.
  • Must have a positive personal attitude consistent with the goals/objectives of our company.

Working Conditions

  • This position is part of the Hoyle site located at our Porcupine Mine Site near Timmins, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 4x3 schedule (day shift). As such, if you do not live near the mine site, we will require relocation.
