Purpose

Provide supervision to Security Guards on day to day activities associated to site security with the objective of protecting company assets.

SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY EXPECTATIONS

  • Ensure and promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Promote and adhere to Newmont Safety and Sustainability policies
  • Conduct monthly site inspections
  • Conduct monthly safety meetings with security staff
  • Will use the Fatality Risk Management (FRM) booklet to ensure that Newmont’s standards are complied with by all within their sphere of influence and that those in their areas of concern are applying the FRM standards as required. 

Security Standards

  • Supervision of Security Guards in an effort to protect company assets.
  • Prepare schedule for security staff including coverage during illness, vacation, or any other authorized leave of absence.
  • Ensure all security guards are up to date with provincial licensing requirements
  • Ensure all security guards are trained properly on all Porcupine Gold Mines sites by providing and recording training on all aspects of security as identified by Security Superintendent.
  • Ensure all security guards are up to date on PGM policies and procedures
  • Direct inquiries from outside agencies to appropriate PGM authorities

Physical Protection

  • Ensure the physical safety of employees, contractors and visitors
  • Coordinate efforts of outside security vendors who protect company assets
  • Ensure all staff are up to date on CPR/Advanced first aid

Information Protection

  • Ensure network security is maintained in coordination with PGM IT team
  • Ensure physical protection of network through security protocols
  • Ensure security staff treat network systems with integrity

Management

Assist Security Superintendent to 

  • Investigate all matters relating to PGM site breaches, thefts, accidents, damage or other similar matters
  • Evaluate security staff during probationary period as well as on a yearly basis and be prepared to make recommendations on continued employment, discipline or dismissal
  • Assist with budget for department
  • Conduct security audits
  • Develop and maintain contacts and relationships with local, provincial and federal law enforcement agencies and other related government agencies
  • Replace Security Superintendent when away from PGM. 
  • Oversee all aspects of training pertaining to policies, procedures, site specific training, exterior training and other areas identified by Security Superintendent.

Training & Experience

  • Minimum grade 12 education. Post secondary education in law enforcement community would be an asset
  • Education in information technology or security technology would be an asset
  • Possess or immediately obtain a Private Security & Investigative Services Act License for the Province of Ontario
  • Law Enforcement and/or extensive security experience in industrial setting
  • Background in training/instructing
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a related Supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead others
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective training/instructing skills
  • Investigative background/skills
  • Effective interviewing experience

Working Conditions

  • This is a site based position located in Timmins, ON
  • The schedule is 4 days on 3 days off
