Dimensions

They will be reporting to the Senior Pit Geologist.  Responsible for ensuring quality geological data collection and troubleshooting grade control issues in the pit. Responsible for deciding if material is ore or waste and appropriate destination.  Interacts with department heads, technical services staff, contractors and other company personnel as required. Communicates with operators in an advisory capacity. Contact with Assay Lab and Mill personnel is also important.
Requires good communication skills in order to align Operations and Technical Services personnel on ore control and proper sampling.

 

Purpose

Complete safe, timely and accurate geological duties in the open pit, including grade control (data collection and presentation) and collection of geological and geotechnical data from the pit.

    
Safety & Sustainability Expectations

  • Become familiar with all aspects of the Fatality Risk Management.
  • Be proactive with respect to safety. Report and correct hazards as they are identified.
    Accountable for own health and safety performance as well as wellbeing of those in the workplace.
  • Conform to the critical control verification process on site.

Essential Duties

  • Ensure that grade control samples are taken according to standard operating procedures.
  • Manage blast hole data, including survey data.
  • Define ore boundaries using defined procedures.
  • Ensure loading operators have grade control polygons and know where boundaries are.
  • Maintain close relationship with operators and troubleshoot grade control or geological issues.
  • Maintain close relationship with laboratory, ensuring that priority samples are clearly marked and requirements are understood.
  • Participate in weekly planning meetings.
  • Continual improvement of existing processes in grade control.
  • Assign grade to trucked ore in a timely fashion and maintain production and grade control summary data and reports.
  • Support month end and reconciliation reporting processes
  • Contribute to lithology and geological structure mapping exercises.
  • Other tasks as requested by the Senior Pit Geologist

Training & Experience

  • Completion of a post-secondary education program in geology
  • Experience in the mining environment, or in a data or systems’ management role would be considered an asset.
  • Exposure to technical computing with data management and modeling are essential.  Knowledge of AutoCAD, Deswik and Vulcan is preferred.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. Innovative and a proven ability to work with others.

Working Conditions

This is a site based position supporting our Porcupine Gold Mine operations in Timmins, ON

The schedule is 4 days on 3 days off.
