 This position will lead all Asset Management Initiatives while providing strong direction and strategic guidance to subordinate Supervisors. This position reports directly to the Mine Maintenance Superintendent while working closely with Mine Operation Personnel to ensure departmental alignment with key operational objectives.

Purpose

 

With support from Mine Operations and the Mine Maintenance Superintendent, the purpose of this role is to manage all aspects of the Hoyle Pond Mine Maintenance department to ensure that work activities are performed in the safest and most cost-effective manner, by motivating, providing guidance with safe and strategic work practices to continuously improve the departments safety and work execution performance and capability.

Essential Duties

 

  • Ensure that Supervision, and all employees inclusive of any business partners are working in compliance to as well as performing mandated interventions in accordance with our Newmont’s Health, Safety, and Environmental policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines in addition to any applicable federal, provincial, or local Environmental, Occupational, and Health & Safety Acts, or Regulations throughout the commission of all activities, and are trained, qualified, competent, and fit for duty for the environment in which they are executing these activities.
  • Promotes, participates, and monitors the utilization of Safety Management Systems, by mentoring and leading Safety Programs, Safety Initiatives, Risk Assessments, Incident Reporting, and Investigations with Supervision and Business Partners while ensuring timely follow-up and implementation of corrective actions and measures.
  • Develop and promote Safe Work Procedures, Perform Safety as well as Risk Management Inspections & Interactions, and attend safety meetings as required while promoting and mandating effective maintenance, housekeeping, and workplace organization in all work areas in all instances.
  • Prepare for and establish controls to prevent environmental incidents and ensure prompt reporting and cleanup of spills or releases to environment
  • Supervises and mentors front line supervisors, sets goals & objectives, reviews performance, and manages performance for supervision and all downstream employees while participating in the Progressive Discipline and Performance Improvement Process with Improvement actions where required. 
  • Provides leadership and direction for maintenance crews, including holding meetings to ensure that employees are kept informed of safety, production, Asset Management, and cost performance statistics, to encourage growth and participation while driving improvements for key organizational objectives.
  • Leads business partner engagement & contract management, as well as the hiring process for both staff and hourly employees within the department to ensure that new hires have the skills, qualifications and competencies required of them to become contributing members of the team with a strong safety mindset and culture.
  • Responsible for asset management and maintenance of all resources, assets, and equipment used within the department to ensure production, and execution of the annual organization, and department operating plans.
  • Liaises with Asset Management, and Mine Operation Stakeholders to ensure Asset Management activities enhance the efficiency and cost effectiveness of mining operations while being aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Participate heavily in Asset Management Strategic Planning, Preparation, and Scheduling of annual Asset, and operating Plans, and Budgets.
  • Organize and ensure timely execution of all Planned and Unplanned Execution of maintenance activities while ensuring the department focus on achieving Asset Management objectives.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain and Asset Management groups to develop equipment life cycle management strategies, and forecast all material requirements 
     

Training & Experience

 

  • Holds a Certificate of Competency in a relevant trade and/or an Engineering or Technology designation, accompanied by formal work experience relevant to Underground Mine Stationary and Mobile Equipment Maintenance.
  • A minimum of 10 years of maintenance experience with surface and underground mining equipment including Mine Rescue & Emergency equipment, Conveyances & Hoists, Ventilation, Dewatering, Compressors, Water Treatment, Ore Processing, and Surface & Underground Mobile Mining Equipment.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Senior Maintenance Supervisory experience in an underground mine with demonstrated experience mentoring and developing Supervisors and their subordinates.
  • Be technically competent, with the ability to listen, inspire and develop team members with Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to continually improve, motivate, and effectively lead others to achieve individual and organizational objectives. 
  • Must have SAP ERP experience at an advanced level, including proficiency with all modules associated with enterprise asset management and plant maintenance.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite and be accustomed to leading, organizing, and chairing virtual meetings including creating and performing formal workshops and presentations. 
     

Working Conditions

 

  • This position is located at Hoyle Pond, part of Newmont's Porcupine Mine Site near Timmins, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 4x3 schedule.  As such, if you do not live near the site, we will require you to relocate.
